Aussie Rules Football

Watching it on ESPN 360 now, Fremantyle v. Collingwood. First time watching it.

Many of the guys look like they've never set foot in a gym, I guess since the game is more based on speed? Number 31 on the Dockers is enormous, but probably just looks that way because the rest are so small.

I love ESPN360. Since I don't have cable, just a big ass flat screen hooked up to a desktop, it's a real lifesaver. They show some crazyass sports on here though.

I love when they show Brazilian women's volleyball

When ESPN was just starting out they broadcast ARF all the time. Hours upon hours of it. Made for good entertainment gathered around the bong.

They can’t get too big.. They run about 17km a game.. Unlike the standard afl player who's lucky to make a mile Sure, they could juice up like NFL players.. But they don’t have the luxury of playing for 10 seconds and then going off to let 1 of 3 replacements take over.. And they don’t even play both offence and defence the bulgers.. Also, if found on steroids they kick you out of your game here in Aus. Unlike the states where you cop a few weeks on the bench. Makes it a fairer game

All good points. I think certain American athletes would be pretty dominant, but you're right, it's really a different skillset, and most American players wouldn't have the stamina. Imagine Gilbert Brown running around like that.

For sure! I'm more of a rugby fan and I wish we could poach a few of your big boys.. There are 1 or 2 Americans in their Rugby 7 team that are blistering, great to watch. One played in the Rugby world cup and scores one of the best tries of the whole thing. Ultimately, they're different sports though. I love NFL! And it's getting huge in Aus now that a network called 1HD is showing most games Also a few good hits

I want to see what happens to the first Rugger or Aussie leaguer, who goes up to say, Albert Haynesworth or Steve Hutchinson and tells them how inferior they are to their face.

Google 'Too many weights, not enough speed work' and you'll see I would put a stack of fifties on Anthony Mundine putting him to sleep in seconds Edit. I'm just antagonizing

Even though, as you recognize above, the NFL is full of steroidal drug cheats who are leaner and stronger than humans can naturally be? No hate, I love football (and AFL and rugby), but I do wonder what sport people who say NFL players couldn't take Aussie Rules or rugby players are watching for reference

Of course. But google FuiFui MoiMoi, a player who plays 80minutes non stop. Compare that to one of the NFL boys who plays 10 second bursts and would be lucky to break a sweat. It's apples and oranges

Aussie Rules football is more like soccer or rugby than football. There is constant running and no set offense/defense/special teams. I think the poster is trying to make the point that it would be difficult for a lot of NFL athletes to adapt to that style of play when they are used to lots of time on the bench.

Undoubtedly, a lot of our guys, if given a few months to shed some bulk and boost their cardio could go down there and dominate. But, at least initially, stamina would be a problem.

Aussie Rules in nothing like nfl.. I would love to see some nfl players come play league or union. A few did in the 70s and 80s and got absolutely dusted! It's a completely different game.. Having said that, no aussies could play NFL (Except the punters and kickers which you guys keep drafting from the AFL) Like I said.. Chalk and cheese.. Its not taking away from any code.. i watch league and union religiously and nfl, football and afl way too much!
