Fack!!! I'm jealous of a crack-head!

Thread Starter
Is everyone except me rich????

I'm just watching intervention right now. There's a girl who's under 30 who works as a hairstylist, is bulemic, an alcoholic, a meth-head and addicted to cocaine and she lives with her boyfriend who's also addicted to coke and meth. Yet somehow, she drives a Nissan 350Z and lives in a nice house I could never afford. Meanwhile I'm a 26 year-old accountant with a big4 firm making a crappy wage and driving a '98 camry.

How the f' do these people get this much money and how do I do this? I'm starting to think the key to success for me is a coke problem.

Edit: Fack!!! They just said she's 25!

Not everyone who has money shows it and not everyone who has some toys has money (loans and other factors (family) can be the source). I have seen many people on this site buy $800 sneakers and other pricey items, yet their interior of their house is in need of a remodel or even the Porsche forum post their cars in front of their house and it is a far from nice house, which you would not suspect if you saw them driving around town. Appearances of wealth can be deceiving.

Stop watching TV ... problem solved.

Probably living off credit. And to be blunt, Big 4 Accounting isn't known for the great pay and accounting is an underpaid profession in general. At least you have earning potential.

cheer the fuck up buddy.

They may have some better belongings than you BUT as you said.... she is bulemic, alcoholic, a meth-head and addicted to cocaine plus living with a boyfriend who's also addicted to coke and meth.

I'd take a shitty car over that any day.

...I'm sure you could take on a car loan / lease one as well. I highly doubt she owns the car outright. I'm in the same situation, except swap 26 for 25, big 4 for small firm and '98 camry for '99 tercel. We are living the life my good friend. On edit: Thinking of the other thread. How are you so bored as an accountant? I've been busting my ass for the last 3 months. For the past 3 weeks, I've been working 70 hour weeks.

Life is all about how you finish rather than how you start. Also, you realize she's on crack and money is finite for a crackhead. If she continues on she'll be giving blow jobs at truck stops.

You go to the bank and ask for a loan. Then you take that loan and use it as a down payment for a house on an interest-only ARM with an excellent teaser rate. Then you send back all the credit card solicitations you get in the mail and wait for that free money to start rolling in. If you bought your giant home before, say, 2000 then you could also have applied for an equity loan in the mid 2000s and gotten 100k+ in free cash as it was now "worth so much more". Plenty of cash to start up a drug habit. The reason the crackhead had not pawned or sold the house and car is most likely because they did not have any equity in them. Some stuff I cribbed from Dave Ramsey:
  • The typical American household has $38k in debt, up 3x since 1980 (Consumer Reports Money Book)
  • 71% of Americans say debts are making their home lives unhappy (Consolidated Credit Counselling Services survey)
  • 70% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (WSJ)
  • Mortgage debt has doubled since the early 90s (Federal Reserve)
In short, they don't have that much money; what you're seeing is the results of the credit boom - where even crackheads got approved for giant houses. If you own your car, have no consumer debt and are building up savings then you are doing better than 70% of America. Stop watching television; it's aspirational crap that teaches you to want things you never knew you even wanted (and certainly don't need or that will make your life better). For example, it makes you think that crackheads are financial role models. Read some Dave Ramsey books. Stay out of debt. In the long run, you'll do much better.

Keep telling yourself that while you work a shitty job and retire at 60 to finally start living.

Cocaine addiction is not crack addiction.

Now I'm curious: what episode was it? Did you see it online?
