Worst ever was Claremont, CA, to Brentwood. 75 minutes one way in the best of circumstances. Gawdawful.

Yea but I know no one in OC. Im sure I can just hit the gym after work or something. Im an LA guy (well, long beach right now)

Would only do it if it were an opportunity of a lifetime that would open more doors down the road. Doesn't seem like this job propsect would qualify. Would not do.

Im already on the road about 2 hours a day for a contract job. Sucks, yea, but its life. Im gonna wait and see what the offer is to determine if its a cant miss opportunity. Cant say any other interviews have come up since Ive been job hunting for a 2 months, so if this is a full time job with bennies Id probably be a fool to turn it down over something like drive time.

Worst: 1hr each way. But the pay-off was once I was home, I was on 10 acres of wilderness with no one around to bother me.

Best: Right now. I wake up, get a coffee and stagger into the office down the hallway. Working from home does have downsides, but the commute isn't one of them

Not saying the commute wouldn't be a problem. I'd hate it to. What I'm saying is that if he's talking just about the city itself, Anaheim wouldn't be a bad city to have to work in.

for me , it was not that bad last year: about 35-45 minutes both ways from costa mesa to torrance and back.

but for some reason, traffic has gotten really bad this year.

at least 50 minutes and regularly 1 hour and 5-10 minutes each way.

so i ve joined a vanpool last week.

cut my commute time to about 45 minutes both ways, but i save half on gas. also i get some work done in the van.

It's actually Tustin to Orange and from the Tustin/Orange border. I'm only on the 55 for a mile to get onto the 22 for a couple exits so it is against traffic in the morning. Plus both work and office are right off the freeways. So 8 minutes is being conservative as it doesn't normally take that long. Anaheim would be fine too as it is again against traffic if getting on the 57 or even the 5 for a couple exits.

Going home, I get on the 22 (office is right next to the onramp) and get off on the second exit before the 55 so I don't hit traffic except for a minute or two because people don't know how to merge onto the freeway.

I'd probably do the gym thing if I had the commute. I just workout at home as is. I've done the Long Beach to Orange drive in the morning to work and right after work (going to and from a friends house) and it really isn't that bad. The 22 (at least when I did it a few times a year or so ago) is normally a good freeway to drive on and traffic isn't that bad. It's nowhere near as bad as the 405 or 5. Edit: Above post is in comparison of the 22 versus other freeways in the area. Commuting still sucks no matter what.

I'm on tour with a show at the moment, so I'll have to get from Madison, WI, sunday evening to Costa Mesa, CA, tuesday afternoon. It's not usually that bad, and yes, the job is worth it.

I must have read in haste. I thought you had a full-time job already and were considering an unsolicited offer to move elsewhere. Sure, if you're looking for a full-time job, and this is your only prospect, then this won't absolutely kill you. Not an ideal circumstance, but you do what you go to do these days. Gym after work is a good idea.

Have all you guys beat both ways: To work: Between 01m:50s and 02m:20s depending on what I'm driving. To Class: 01h:12m by car, 00:47m by train, 00:12m on foot. Have done this for a year now, have three more to go. Definitely couldn't do it forever. ~H
