I would be very interested to know where one finds a used Sinn for $250? That's something like a 70% discount off a new 556 (in North America).

combined end up looking like this(but the bolts start to peek once it's on your wrist..):

What kind of watch is that? The links are just for the watch strap arent they?

If you know vintage pieces well enough, by all means, they're awesome. Vintage Omega or Longines are great. Not sure what price vintage IWC or JLC start at, but I'm guessing more. Otherwise, how much do vintage Acutron Spaceviews run?

For modern, I really like Hamilton. Looks just like an IWC MK for 1/8 the price.

Is this anywhere near $250? Because all I see is $800+ showing up.

PRC200 retail for around $450. You cna probably find it for cheaper if you look around Amazon or ebay. http://www.authenticwatches.com/tiss...t17152652.html $260 here: http://www.jomashop.com/tissot-t17-1-526-52.html This one is nice for $210. http://www.jomashop.com/tissot-t0144101605700.html

Vintage IWC is hard to come by and most certainly exceeds the $250 budget

Thanks RFX. I was mistakingly looking at the new prc200 automatic they have on the tissot website for $875 and confusing it for the one above. I like the one that retails for $495 better anyways, and, yeah, they can be had on deep sale.

That looks like an Eterna-Matic Kontiki 1958... It's got kind of a Rolex Explorer vibe to it, but it's distinct enough in its own right. I'd wear one.

This is the one I have...

+1. Orient watches can be had for extremely cheap ($100-150), but they have the build quality of a bank vault.

Orient Black Mako:

Doesn't surprise me, but I've never priced one out.

Definitely a classy pick. Would be my choice as well.

Depends on what you are looking for. You won't get that Eterna 1958 KonTiki or any Sinn for $250. If you want a durable, high quality beater with a tiny bit of bling, you can have a Seiko SKX007J type dive watch (J=made in japan vs elsewhere) off of ebay. Look for a "Seiko super oyster II" to upgrade the bracelet to a screw link version with solid ends. Just make sure you go with a reputable dealer with lots of positive feedback.

Those Orient divers are nice also.

IMHO, you should stay away from any brands that you only see on Overstock, Ashford, etc. like Swiss Legend, Haurex, Jules Jurgensen etc. Mostly cheapo stuff. One exception would be Accutron. I have seen some great deals on Shnoop.com for a very nice Accutron diver. There was even a Valljoux 7750 Chronograph for under $400. Quite the steal!! Also be careful buying "vintage" on ebay. You may not get what you pay for.

Another source, if you want to take the time, would be to look at the sales/trade forums of the following web forums:
http://www.timezone.com
http://www.pmwf.com
http://www.watchuseek.com
http;//www.broadarrow.net

I have been buying, selling and trading off of all of these forums for years and haven't been burned yet. There are some great deals on some nice watches and the fact that you are dealing with hobyists makes it rather safe. Good luck!!
