several timex models

especially the black monochrome seen in this months GQ (60)

and any (working) model of the insanely ubiquitous (non-working) models I see, hoping still work at just about any thrift store I go into.

A quick update. I've been wearing these for a few weeks, but I wasn't crazy about the band. It's bulky and heavy, and doesn't look all that great. So I changed it out for a $30 dark brown leather strap. I'm really loving this now: View Larger View Larger

Watch looks great on your pic. Not a big fan of the brown strap with the blacked out watch though, a black croc strap would have looked great.

Agreed. Although I dig the "black & brown" pairing, I'd prefer a black or color #8 shell cordovan strap. I just happened to have this one around. A black/grey bond Nato strap would be nice too.

I can't recommend this watch enough for the price. The finishing is nice, and I love the high-contrast dial. The band is a little shite, but the watch itself is awesome.

It would looks great with some carbon fiber strap too, or kevlar. Hows the lume on it?

I think that it's great - it glows really brightly after it's been in the sun for a bit. That said, I actually have no point of reference. All of my other watches are vintage Swiss ones from the 60's and 70's, so this is the first one that I've ever had with a Lume.

I wanted a starter watch at ~$200 price point last year and bought the Tissot PR 50, Black Face, Stainless Steel Band, and Roman Numerals (Model T34.1.481.53). It's thin, and the face isn't massive, so it looks great on an small/average sized wrist. Some of the watches posted here look very over sized IMHO. I paid $160 for it shipped, and I am very happy with it. The case and band scratch fairly easily, but the sapphire crystal glass face doesn't have a single scratch on it after a year of daily wear.

So far all the Orient talk has been about the Mako, but for a more formal watch, buy an Orient Sky and put it on a black leather strap: http://www.orientwatchusa.com/cet050...ient-p-52.html

It's currently OOS, but definitely an amazing deal once they're available again, especially with one of Orient's promos. Where else can you get a watch with an in-house movement for low three figures?

Anyone knows where to buy this one? I couldn't find it via google. Maybe hasn't been released yet.

This one?

If so, someone on another forum contacted Timex and it is said that it will be available mid-August at Timex.com and Amazon for $60. Called the Black-on-Black Easy Reader by the way.

GQ also states that it is available in some Bloomingdales:

$60, available at select Bloomingdale's stores
