+1

Phones and Gadgets can run out of juice. Watch can also do much more than telling time.

Someone recommended the over budget, Laco Classic Flieger($500ish), looking into it I see that Laco offers a cheaper version: Pilot A auto. Miyota 198 euros, equates to $250ish free shipping. Not as nice as the Classic, which has a 25 jewel ETA movement instead of this 21 jewel citizens movement. Also does not have a screw down crown. Aesthetically it is basically the same though and at $250 quite a steal. Trying to decide between this Laco for $250, or splurging for a Stowa Flieger for around $600. Love the exchange rate right now. Only Automatic I have right now is a Seiko 5, and it is just way too small for me most of the time. Cheap and good looking, but I would not advice it unless you have tiny wrists. Edit: Went to checkout and they drop the VAT as well, so it is really only $210 shipped.

No seiko japan movement garbage!
I would go on craigslist and look for a TAG heur or an Omega watch.
make a post watch wanted, 250 youl get good responses.
I got a oris watch for around that at a pawn shawp for a gift for my step pops.
check those too. nice watches can be had for 250 with a little effort.
I have made this work you should try. couldnt hurt.

I wouldn't dismiss Seiko's as garbage...or rather any other companies in the japanese watch industry. Actually that moniker is probably better reserved for TAG Heuer and several other "swiss" companies. If you do your research correctly, you'll find that most TAGs have a little more than poorly decorated BASE ETA movements. Also, as for the whole "swiss made" argument... according to Swiss law, as long as 51% of the watch was made/assembled(forget which) in Switzerland, they get to stamp it on the watch as such. Go figure. So I wouldn't get too hopped up on your Swiss time pieces if I were you.

For the money, Seikos are some of the best watches you can get.

nobody had anything bad to say about omega.
I admit I am biased towards swiss.
Some tags are nicer than others.
when i think japanese movement I think cheap, but dont get me wrong, I dont want to dismiss the quality. cheap is good to some. I like my watches to look good while they function. I dont think alot of watches look good, swiss or not. Im glad you guys like them.

And yet you call them "garbage". Sounds like a dismissal to me.

Seiko is probably the only company who is still a true in-house watchmaker today. All of their parts and components are made in-house, unlike Tag or Omega who outsource some (if not most) of their parts. The Grand Seiko of Japan is highly praised and often ranked above Tag, Rolex and Omega.

On what rankings? I know name cache on seiko is garbage. I look at them like running shoes functional, but they usually look terrible. I dig euro styling on timepieces. me saying they are garbage is a bit harsh. There is a place in the world for watches like these.
Not for me. when it comes down to the technological aspects of watchmaking I have no doubt japanese can perform but its like cars, Id rather drive a german mercedes anyday than a japanese car. we can start breaking down performance to price ratio's but who cares.
what makes materialistic things special is the attachment you have with them. so good for you if you like these.
