The Harvard Club New York City

I had some client meetings this week at this old club. I was fairly impressed by it.

Anyone else a fan of this club's architecture?

The McKim, Meade and White structure is quite striking. Inside the place it's a mix of old and modern (the hotel/dorm operation) but the reading rooms are quite nice. The only negative is a very tightly controlled atmosphere with strict rules enforcement. On the plus side they do keep the rooms nicely quiet.

It is a weird, wonderful place. My favorite is the stuffed elephant head in the Harvard Room.

) is the new york yacht club next door/across the st. w/ the cool ship windows: Attachment 44492

client meetings = big event? any problems w/ the whole times sq. thing?

I think the University Club is a bit more interesting. You should be able to find pictures online. Of note are the member's reading room, main dining room, library and of course the entry. The room off of the entrance to the left is interesting too.

thnx - couldn't remeber exactly so i just did a belts & suspenders. that block is busy - also ny bar assoc as well as algonquin...

Really? I mentioned it because we rented out West I, II and III and paid a small fortune, yet in spite of this they gave us a hard time when we wanted a room (arranged and approved in advance) for a meeting with a CMO. We literally had to get two different Maitre D's to make it happen. Maybe my Zegna MTM was too forward for them.

I saw the NY Yacht Club and liked that building as well. MMW did some buildings at UVA so perhaps I like the HV architecture better because of that.
