NYC apartment rent ideas/recommendations - Page 3

You should have used airbnb instead.

And no, it's not worth a day trip to go to Boston or Dc. Those cities pale in comparison

Nothing is quite like Colette here but you'll find a few similar boutiques within a 15 min walk radius with Odin, Oak and Opening Ceremony in the Noho/Soho area

Storm King would be worth the trip and I believe you have to drive by Woodbury.

Yep, we literally drove right by the gate of the outlet.

With regard to the Boston trip. The general idea is not the Boston itself, but the drive thru New England in fall, ivy league feel etc. Now I don't know

We are going to the Guggenheim and some others (MOMA etc.) I was just afraid of the Met. Just too big. And I know that I can't do it in a rush. I did Louvre in two days on two occasions and felt like I didn't commit enough. So that's why I prefer d'Orsay for example.

One other Q, which I should know from following SF, but I don't. Is there a store in NYC that would be similar in concept to Collete in Paris or Dover Street Market in London?

Leffot is open? For shoes?

Any chance of finding decent shoes in C21 (EG, C&J, Barker Black...)?

Freemans Sporting club is the kinda not really the closest thing i can think to collete in that they have a clothing store, barber shopp, and restaurant in the back.

The Met is worth the trip - just pick a few sections and focus.

I can't think of a Collette equivalent - Jeffrey maybe.

You won't find decent shoes at C21.

Pick two neighbourhoods per day and walk them. It's a grid - you can't get lost.

Oh well, Met it is.

I have two guides, Time Out and Lonely Planet. Neighborhood aproach is the one we were planning on.

Thanks.

This seems great, Storm King and Stone Barns. Much more feasible and more relaxing. Will propose this to the possy.

Most of all I am looking forward to just feeling the City. People watching, dine'n'vine, strolling around, photographing . . .

Thank you once again for the help

3. I think the Jewish community center at 75-76 and Amsterdam sells day passes and they have a nice swimming pool. If not, there is an equinox next door.

8. Basement bar. Shalel on west 70th. http://www.yelp.com/biz/shalel-lounge-new-york
Open air rooftop bar. 230 fifth ave. Nice view of empire state building.
Central park view. Robert at the Museum of arts and design. Also Asiate at the mandarin oriental.

15. Too general. There are too many things to list for UWS. What do you want?

I like the feel of this from the website. Very touristy, in a good way.

Nothing specific, but since this is going to be our neighborhood, mostly for mornings and early evenings, diner and restaurant suggestions would be nice. The one gdl proposed (Dovetail) looks great. Also some (pop) cultural or shopping, market, gems a person wouldn't trek to from downtown on purpose, but would take advantage of if staying in the neighborhood.

I don't wanna bother you guys with this any more. I think I have more than enough info. Thanks for all the great suggestions and help !!!

Maybe I'll write up a trip summary once we return. Kind of a "˜'Balkan man in New York'' type of thing.

Some people swear by Cafe Lalo for breakfast / snack - I don't think it's all that, but why not one morning if you're not too far

I agree with the Levain Bakery and Cafe Lalo recs. If cafe Lalo is too packed you can try Cafe Edgar down the street. For a local bar, I like Dive 75. Shalel is a cool lounge, also in the neighborhood. Try GROM for gelato and Bear Papa for cream puffs.
