There is an entire forum devoted to this sort of thing. Its called Streetwear and Denim. For labor intensive activities, like killing small birds, cutting the lawn, or rebuilding a deck, free college T-shirts and 17.99 Calvin Klein Costco denim specials will get the job done.

--- Actually I wouldn't say that. Like, for example,

Typical weekend gadding about attire (going to the market, the laundry, the pet food store, miscellaneous errands of that type): open-necked sports shirt (polo shirt very rarely), ascot occasionally, khakis or similar cotton trousers, dress casual shoes (usually A-E Dress Casuals), fedora or Panama hat (very frequently). In cool weather I'll frequently wear a sport coat with such apparel. It goes without saying that the jacket always is mated with a pocket square.

----Now that my friend, is a Sartorialist and hardly streetwear and denim.

Typically summer Sunday. Untucked T&A button down, jeans or Paul Stuart shorts, and Haviana flops.

I don't have a habit of dressing down for even minor activities.

You can't go out looking like that.

However, for your inner Continental, perfect.

Favorite:
Linen square-cut shirt, MTM in Thailand last trip.
Tommy Bahama linen shorts.
Rockport flip-flops or Taryn Rose boat shoes, no socks (and GASP... I don't own a boat!)

Sacramento weather requires dressing down when you're out and about-- 117 degrees yesterday.

Same with me.

Typically: Old Navy cargo shorts (fathers of young children need lots of pockets!), perhaps with paint (and, more recently, shoe polish ) stains. Cheapo short-sleeve shirt, either button-down or t-shirt (usually whatever my daughter chooses). The dreaded flip-flops.
If it's too cold for flip-flops (not an issue of late), athletic socks and LLBean comfort mocks or my most recently-retired set of running shoes (there's a progression from wearing them to run to wearing them around town to wearing them to garden, paint, or lay cement).

Casual for me is Armani pants and a sweater of some sort, or perhaps a polo or linen shirt in the summer.

My aim, however, is to have a big enough rotation of borrelli jackets and bespoke shirts so that I can avoid wearing this stuff as often because I much prefer the jacket look, even for errands.

If I know I'm going to be at the beach or sweating in the sun all day, I'll wear the armani pants and linen shirt.
