It depends on what you're looking for. A regular 3 is more comfortable, and less expensive to maintain: it has better gas mileage, its wear items (brakes, tires, oil) are cheaper, and those parts generally last longer. When something does break, it's usually also cheaper to fix. Also, most people (like at least 99.9 percent of the driving population) couldn't drive a regular 3 to its full potential, much less an M3. --Andre

^ all good points. ive never been in the market for an M car (until recently, with the M coupes which are much cheaper now) so I never really thought about the maintenance aspect, and comfort isnt a concern for me - the more go-kart-like the better.

Having owned both, I would generally agree. That said, I did find the cost differential on maintenance parts between M and non-M cars to be relatively insignificant, at least for the E36 and E46 generations. The newer E9x generation may be a different story.

I have 335i in sparkling graphite with saddle brown but think the brown interior looks better with the space grey, more contrast. The graphite looks a bit flat at times. Do not care for the aluminum trim at all. Saddle brown is great, comes with black carpet. Make sure you get saddle and not the terra. Terra has too much orange in the color. Would take saddle and space grey, saddle and white or saddle and dark blue. In that order. Trunk space is limited. This is a good feature to have. Not sure that the x on BMW's is truly a 4wd system. It just directs power to where /when it is needed. Car will not go in snow. Blizzack's are great snow tires and necessary. Personally, Audi doesn't do it for me. Just don't care for them in any way.

It depends on which generation of Xdrive. They will all redirect torque, but the latest ones can improve handling by speeding up a wheel even if you're not on the gas, like the Honda SH-AWD. I think all of the cars with Xdrive now have that system, but I'm not sure.

Big +1 for snow tires, no matter what kind of drive system you have.

Space Gray - Black Interior. be careful with the aluminium - if you live in a hot climate. It was a bitch when i lived in LA, doing weekends in Palm Springs. Anything over a hundred degrees and you will burn your legs and arms.

The red one is the best color for me. However, it is just my opinion and you are free to state what do you prefer.

Get the manual Trans... You'll kick your self later if you don't. Black with grey on the insides. BMW's look best ether Grey or Black or White.

I went with Sapphire black with Dakota brown w/ dark walnut trim, loaded 6speed.

Zero regrets.
