Thinking about a new haircut

I really have never put any thought into my haircut, but recently ive decided a little change might be necessary. Hoping you guys can give me some good opinions since I really have no idea about the fashion world and general do or do nots.
Looking for a "rocker" haircut, something that I can have on stage and look legit, and also looking good for the opposite sex is important lol. Not in the working world so looking specifically clean or classy is not a concern, as long as it is not something over the top that would just draw insults rather than compliments. I am not very loud, boisterous, or overconfident if a hairstyle requires that to rock it. I'm 5'9, brown eyes, brown hair, fairly tanned, defined and skinny, but not like lanky skinny, moreso relatively big chested

If you guys think of another idea for a haircut that would suit me well, feel free to say..or also if facial hair of any sort would be a good idea, since im at the point where I can grow it just not sure if clean shaven would be better.

Cut it short and gel it but don't put it in a fauxhawk. just kind of mess it up a little bit like this guy.

A lot of that hair is in result of genetics, and a bunch of layered product (also he has highlights). Also probably some photoshop. Not really a realistic example.

Just get your haircut at a good place, say "messy" (they will "layer" it, use some special scissors which cut ends at different lengths) and tapered around the sides. Make sure they use scissors not fucking clippers. If they have an "Uhhh.... what I dont even" reaction when you ask for scissors, kindly get up and go somewhere else. They don't know what they're doing.

Then just get some promade, dampen your hair and put some in it and style it. Boom.

Thanks a lot dude, great advice. So if I throw out all those others and trust a good haircuter, you guys think i should go short style or medium?

I haven't asked for a specific hair cut in my life. My hairdresser knows what she is doing, and all she does is ask how long I want it and cuts it accordingly then shows me how to style it. Never been disappointed.

What exactly makes the faux hawk hairstyle douchey and the "messy" look non-douchey? Sometimes it's hard to distinguish the two cuts.
