Where do people hear some of this crap?

My collection of sartorial advice from around the US and Canada: "Black suits are versatile". "Always button the bottom button; sometimes the middle; never the top". (One law student said this to another while giving me the evil eye for not following the "rules") "Double breasted suits are for fat people". "Your shirt sleeve is the right length when it's still covering your watch with your arm bent". "You've outgrown your suit when your shirt sleeves are showing underneath your suit". "Dark shirts with light ties are fashionable". "Cowboy boots look well with suits". "Denim jackets are versatile". Where the hell are people getting this advice from? What have you heard?

Colours not to be worn at weddings (for women):

White (only), for the bride - makes sense

Black (only) for funerals- makes sense

Red, signifies that you have slept with the groom -

They probably just remember sometimes always never, but got the order wrong.

I don't know, might be the last time I was in the Macy's Men's department they had tables loaded with dead stock in the aisle and a hotdog vendor. Nothing says quality more than the smell of old hot dog water!

I can't tell you how much sadness there was here in the Chi when Marshall Field's was transformed into Macy's. The changes at the flagship store was especially tragic - no more Hermes scarves and St. John ensembles for the ladies, no more Canali and Hickey-Freeman for the gentlemen, no annual London Flea Market. Marshall Field's had the reputation for being kind of dowdy but I enjoyed it - now it's "shot to hell" (as my dad would say).

I'm a native New Yorker who was living in Chi during the changeover. Even I hated the idea of the name change, but I thought the quality would remain the same. This was before I was exposed to the phenomenon that is the "mall Macys". Macy's 34th st is still a grand old department store, unfortunately, Federated thought Chicago would be better served with a mall Macys than a 34th on State.
