How far up to lace sneakers?

I bought a pair of these recently: http://www.zappos.com/asics-shihan-brown-black As you can see in the picture, the shoes are laced all the way up, but if I do that, the laces are way too short. I'm thinking these are probably just not a good fit because my instep is too high, but given how the eyelets are placed, maybe you're just not supposed to use the top eyelets? Am I missing something?

My recommendation would be to tie them to tie them both to some sort of heavy object before throwing them into the nearest large body of water.

Seriously, why are we still using laces? It's like the 21st century, why isn't everything velcro by now? It's so much more convenient, especially for our largely rotund population.

Ha honestly Ive been on the velcro sneaker train for a while now. I truthfully really like them. Only for sneakers though
