Yeah, I felt it failed to capitalize on the momentum of the last few episodes. Part of the reason the ending wasn't satisfactory is because even though the coverup was exposed, it wasn't directly because of Jack's actions. I don't want to see Jack fail, even batshit crazy anti-hero Jack.

What you've already seen the finale, it's still on the episode where he guts the sniper over here. Damn it I now know what happens! It's been a good series though. And definantly agreed unlike bond where Daniel craig is just so much better because they have changed the entire set up, no one else could play Bauer.

The entire arc of 24 has been following Jack's journey from being a hero to being a kind of anti-hero. It's not like James Bond where you can just plug other guys in.

James Bond movies are also pretty much self-contained rather than serial (cue film geek telling me I'm wrong in 3... 2...) so it's easier to switch the cast around, while assuming the viewer's familiarity with the character of James Bond who transcends any one of the movies.

24 (the concept) would not even require Jack Bauer to have a resurgence - just 24 hours of some CTU agent's life. It could switch to the trainwreck that is going to be Freddie Prinz Jr.s character and still be entertaining. But, I still don't see why someone else could not play that character - with the same story arch. If we can replace a cosby kid, the mom on Fresh Prince, and a sister on Roseann, why not Jack Bauer?

^^ 1. spin-offs usually suck and 2. If you had replaced Roseanne and gotten away with it, that might have been something. Like Roseanne, Jack IS the show. You can't just replace him. Tagut is right about some of the reasons why you can't.

Yeah agreed, with bond being self contained. Look at the way they also changed the mood, old bonds were typical image of British gentleman, classical spy films with gadgets galore. Then pierce brosnan changed thinks a little so it became more violent but still some of the gadgets and effects were unbelievable. Then the newest films with craig are alot more violent and believable with more emphasis on linking the movies and the actual plot rather than the plot being a sub to Bond and the gadgets.

True. I was never a fan myself, but the fantasy/camp aspect defined the early Bond movies. Now that they're moving into more gritty realism, it's making the Bond franchise just like any number of other action films.

I only started watching since the end of season 3. Season 4 was my first full season. I thought at the time it reflected the zetigeist of the 2000s; sacrificing a few to protect many, you're with us or against us type thinking. But maybe it has to go because the milieu has past.

I thought Season 4 was exciting. But every season after that, they keep repeating the mole within CTU, that CTU is insecure and will be breached, and other recurring themes. It almost felt like the writers ran out of ideas. Some of the Charles Logan plot twists were beyond incredelous.

Is it me or does Kiefer Sutherland look much older than the earlier seasons? I think the whisky is catching up to him. I heard he downs them in 3s. I read something else where they said he leaves shooting at the end of the day and drinks till drunk and then staggers in the next day to film again.

uggh. i'm watching season 1 as i work and the wife all of a sudden gets short term memory loss. immediate F-. also a lot of the characters are infuriatingly 1 dimensional and non understanding

Season 1 is the only really good one.

really? cuz then i feel like rest of it will be worse.

some of these characters are just so stupid it's almost inhumane to write imitations of people this way. i'm on the elizabeth nash (the girl who stabs the serbian) part and she's so bad at acting she needs to find a new career
