This is never a good thing to ask. Nothing positive can come from it because you'll never be satisfied by the answer. Say she's racked up a score of partners, obviously that would bother you. But then if she's only been with a handful, I'm sure you'll at first be okay but then once again, your jealousy issues will arise and you'll want to know more about those few and begin prying for something else. For me these days, if I trust a girl I don't care how many she has been with.

Generally, do you think the number is higher for men or for women? I'm inclined to think that the number is higher for men, but women repeat with the same guys more often. Something about not taking too many risks with strangers and sticking with who they know.

I'd rather not know. I've made the mistake of asking a couple of times before and it did not turn out well either time. My friend's advice to me, "if you really are that pissed off about it, just sleep with a few hookers. That has to be way worse than anything she's ever done." I didn't go through with the advice.

My last girlfriend asked me out of nowhere. Her number was higher than mine. I wasn't thrilled about it but it didn't ruin the relationship either.
