Help with gift for grooms party

Just posted this in General Chat but I'm not sure if it's the right forum:

I'm getting married this fall and want to get gifts for the guys in my grooms party. Something between $50-$100 is my target, and I'd like to avoid obvious, cheesy things like keychains or ties for them to wear in the wedding. Unique and interesting/cool is the MO. I was thinking a Jack Spade dopp kit, but they're a little too pricey ($155 for some models). I also though a nice bottle of bourbon/whiskey, but that doesn't "last" and I'd need something to supplement it with.

Any ideas or recommendations would be really appreciated. Thanks

I wouldn't do the Dopp kit because the chances that your groomsman will use it are slim to none. Pretty much any sartorial item is a bad idea. I think the Bourbon/Whiskey idea is pretty good. I wouldn't worry about the "Lasting" part because as much as I hate to say it, what ever you give them is going to end up in storage or something down the road. My brother gave Ipod's to his groomsman back when they first came out and I know for a fact that they are not being used anymore.

+1 on not worrying about lasting. I've gotten good bottles in two of the weddings I've been in, and they were great gifts. It was kind of hard to get myself to actually drink them, given the gift was gone once I finished the bottle, but in retrospect they were great gifts. I spent as much, and in some cases more, time actively enjoying those gifts relative to most other trinkets I've received for being in a wedding.

Another good gift I received was a pocket knife, but that may have been as much about timing as anything else. I lost my pocket knife just before the wedding and hadn't replaced it yet, so it was serendipitous that I received one as a gift.

hookers + VD's, it's the gift that keeps on giving. are these guys all friends? maybe you could do some group thing like stretched hummer ride to a casino, or VIP lounge or whatever. kind of like a bachelor party, except it's a groomsmen party.

Guess you missed the part about a $50-100 min amount! And stretch hummers are corny-FYI.

+2 on not worrying about the gift lasting. I've stood up in weddings before and I would have much rather gotten a nice bottle of scotch that I would be unlikely to buy for myself as opposed to a Swiss Army knife and some other trinkets that just get shoved to the back of a drawer in the kitchen. When giving them a gift of liquor, it's probably something that you know that they would enjoy and use (as long as you know their personalities).

I was part of my best friend's wedding party last summer. We each got an engraved decanter filled with Private Stock. Real nice, but as someone who had almost no money at that time, I would've been even more appreciative if my stupid tux had been paid for in lieu of a tangible gift.

I've been in 3 weddings. Got a tie to wear in the wedding, a USB flash drive and a picture frame. I like the tie the best...but again, not everyone will wear it. Chef's knife maybe? Those are pretty manly and we all like sharp objects to cut meat. Something like a Global or a Shun? http://www.amazon.com/Global-8-Inch-.../dp/B00005OL44 then make a blood pact! or buy each of them a book that fits their personality. something nice, not a novel but a graphic, art, photography, etc

i got a swiss army knife last time i was in the wedding party. i thought it was really cool. with a $50-100 range, i think a nice leatherman would be pretty kick ass. don't forget the penny though.
