Ted Baker Ties - Who Makes 'Em?

Does anyone know who makes the ties that Ted Baker sells under that name? There are some available on eBay from an Aussie seller with the name Uglyuglyties (how's that for positive marketing!) that look quite nice. Could they be made by Drake? Holliday & Brown?

No idea who makes them.

very seriously doubt it.

Roger,

Not sure exactly who makes them but it's definitely not Drakes or H&B. Think more Ike Behar, XMI, City of London... and other department store level ties. Some of the Ted Baker patterns can look attractive (if you like bold, shiny ties) but the quality is not there AFAIAC. The one I have seen have virtually no texture. Most are made in Canada IIRC.

Ted Baker ties take designs from more talented designers from several years ago and make them more cheaply. I thought they're made in Italy or China. I doubt that they're handmade. Don't spend much money on them.

Are you serious?? I am going to have to get my hands on a high quality tie then, because I always thought Ted Baker has very high quality ties. I actually just got a couple yesterday from Marshall's, of all places, for 16 dollars each! I really like Ted Baker's patterns though, they are very unique. And all the Ted Baker ties I have seen were made here in America.

I think that are made by the same company that makes Ike Behar and John W. Nordstrom Ties. IMO, they aren't great quality ties.

If you like them and paid $16, then great - enjoy them. Roger asked about Drake and H&B and they are nowhere near that level of quality. I have seen some made in the US (in addition to Canada and China), never Italy though. Go to any high-end men's store and compare the ties to the Ted Baker and you'll see the difference. If you can't, then do some searches on the forum.

I have a couple Ted Baker ties which are of good quality and have nice patterns. Plus, they were cheap at about $20CDN each.

There were made in the USA and according to the RN number were made by Superba:

I thought Ted Baker designed some of the City of London ties?

I have one of those that I really like and it looks a lot like a Ted Baker design.

They've been all over Marshalls and TJ Maxx lately, so keep your eyes open.

I have a couple of Behars and Bakers that I got cheap - I figure if you like the color and the pattern, and the price is right, enjoy.

My take is that there's a factory out there somewhere (Superba, thanks fkl118!) that produces a lot of stock designs, and their clients - who appear to be Ted Baker, Ike Behar, City of London, and possibly Tyrwhitt at one time - pick their desired colorways in those designs.

City of London are all made in China. They are dirt cheap at Filene's Basement and the like. If you like Ted Baker, I don't think City of London is a big step down in quality. Both are kind of spivvy.

Thanks for the link. It is amazing how many companies outsource work nowadays.

I used to have a couple of Ted Baker ties that I picked up at Marshall's on clearance for $7 each. They were of decent quality and made in the USA. I ran the RN on them once, and at one time could have told you who made them, but I've forgotten. It's not a 'name' place, but one that makes for several other brands of similar quality.

I believe that Ted Baker and City of London are owned by the same company, and you will find that some of City of London's designs are exactly the same as TB. They are of a much looser/poorer weave, however, and will pull more easily. RJMan is right, of course, that Ted Baker (a fictional name) is derivative of other designers, lagging by a couple of seasons.

Well, thanks a lot guys; I want you all to know that you've completely ruined my day--in which I had hopes of landing a beautiful Ted Baker tie cheaply on eBay. Although it is truly beautiful, I couldn't own it now. Spivvy!...great; next I suppose someone's going to say they're naff...
