looking good in bad weather: what's your solution?

So I'd really like to find something to wear on rainy days that actually looks nice. How do you guys accomplish this? Mackintosh, trench coat or something else? Do you wear a hat, go with an umbrella or both? What about keeping your legs dry? Every time i carry an umbrella i still end up soaked from the knees down. I'd really like a pair of these Ventile pants but 1) the smallest size they come in is 32 and i need a 28 or 29, and 2) way outta my price range. Also, what are your favorite shoes for wearing in the rain? Personally I'd really like some Bean Boots.

Anything else i should consider?

Cropped trench + beanie + waterproof boots.. Don't like umbrellas. Rain's usually not heavy enough to warrant one, and if it is, the wind makes umbrellas more of a hassle than an aid. I'm usually not under the sky for extended periods of time on rainy days either..

The thought of wearing a beanie in the rain is nauseating. I wear a waxed cotton coat or a hardshell and use an umbrella.

x2. I prefer a small collapsible umbrella to be carried in my briefcase until needed.

In cool weather I have a Akubra Federation IV in brown, an Oxford Blue waxed jacket and black Jump Boots with cords. I absolutely despise umbrellas, growing up in a windy area meant I have an aversion to the damn things.

Stop being a bunch of fucking pussies. You're not going to melt. I don't own an umbrella, and unless I someday end up wearing $1,500+ suits everyday, I never will.

Ha ha. Pussies melt when wet. Doncha know.

I don't like getting wet unless it's with a female.

Bad weather is a great chance to get good and vagrant-y. Nothing is better in the spring than throwing on a cotton track jacket and tearing the fuck across campus in whatever shoes you feel like sacrificing to the rain gods.

That said, if I had money, I'd buy a mac to keep my clothes dry. Getting all dressed up to go out in the rain is a little bit too five-years-old for me. Simple principle: when you're wondering how to dress for an occasion, ask yourself "what would George Clooney do?" Not show up in rain boots, shaking out an umbrella, that's for sure.

Naturally waterproof Aero horsehide leather jacket.

I'm good with just an umbrella most of the time when it's just light rain. I usually keep a collapsible one in the car.

If it's going to rain, I wear a waterproof coat and carry and umbrella. I also won't wear suede shoes or something that's going to soak my socks
