Really? Maybe if you made it out of the sweatpants/ I have a jean question threads more often it wouldn't seem so stupid. My post was in response to the following:

"this stuff is huge in the streetwear community. if you go to brooklyn every single shoe spot has these and the other polo models. Also every other person is wearing them."

The point being, just because something is popular (i.e. true religion, ed hardy, t-shirts with "clever" sayings) does not make it stylish. The vast majority of individuals have no sense of style whatsoever, so they follow the trends under the assumption that wearing whatever is popular= being stylish.

As for the second part of my post, it is very true that a good number of people here would choose not to wear an item if it became extremely popular. The number of people willing to shell out $300+ for jeans without back pocket stitching, or $200+ sneakers that the average person couldn't tell apart from a pair of $50 chucks goes to show that many SF's are willing to go to great lengths to wear things that no one else (or at least no one they will run into) would be wearing. Many people interesting in fashion want to be ahead of the trends (unique/ no one else wearing it), not follow them (yay! it's popular!) Further illustrating my point is the constant hate for brands like Gap and J. Crew simply because mall brands= commoners. I'm not saying i agree with any of these ideas, but sift through a few of the different threads and you'll see plenty of examples of this type of thought process.

No , i do like them, and i like them because i like the style . your not going to go out and wear tank tops in the middle of the winter if its not in style right? if alot of people do it then its in style

How about you do it, because i like them.
Edit: Where the hell do you live that it is acceptable/ necessary to wear snow boots in the middle of May?
I live in delaware, but there are other places/cities where people where them too.

Those boots are ugly plain and simple. And yes, styleforum does not approve of peasant mall brands masquerading as something they're not. We have a love of H&M and Uniqlo only because they have pieces that represent an aesthetic close enough to what styleforum endorses, namely no branding and slim fit.

Also, you'll find that the only time a chunkier look is accepted around here is when its part of the workwear vibe, and only then is looking non-fashion forward acceptable. Otherwise, expect footwear to be evaluated on a basis of whether or not it is premium leather, coming from a respected maker, sleekly profiled, and well constructed. That boot represents everything Streetwear&Denim finds abhorrent. First, its worn by high school kids ergo peasants. Second, its chunky yet does not pay any attention to proportion in its chunkiness (not high enough, mixing of black and brown). And finally, you've defended its virtues based on appeal to mainstream groupthink.

OP can't differentiate between "style" and "trend", but, being in HS I guess that's forgivable.

+1 though on the grammar. English teacher must cringe.

You win, Ace. Stay classy... with those boots.

At first I thought this was obvious flame, but then remembered that high school kids are so mind-blowingly stupid on average that this was totally plausible. Of course I'm only 7 years out of high school, so I don't know where I sit on the tucked-in-shirt continuum. The front-tuck (frat-tuck) was actually big back in my day.
