Yes, have been following his career for a long time. Some is good, some is bad.

There was a time when he and his MediaVentures/RemoteControl/whatever buddies pretty much had a stranglehold on the mediocre uninspired self-copying action music market. Not sure what his puppets are doing, but he's done some good work lately.
I rather liked the score to Sherlock Holmes, for example.

I know what you mean, but not sure I concur, and I don't even have to go all the way to back to Driving Miss Daisy or Rain Man. See Frost/Nixon, for example, one of the best scores of 2008.
Some of his action cues can be a bit uninspired, but certain movies require a certain 'epic' music. Not sure you can fault him for that. Doubtlessly, he is hired for exactly that. The Dark Knight certainly was 'epic', but it fit the movie very well. Sherlock Holmes has certain 'epic' cues, but they match the over-the-top action sequences on screen, and overall it's very light and quirky.

There was a time, during the MediaVenture blandness, where I very much disliked his music, but I believe he has redeemed himself lately. If there is one thing that bothers me is his continuous use of synthesized orchestra. As if there is not enough in the budget for the real thing (probably has something to do with royalties for union musicians, though).

It's my understanding that most movie scores have a real orchestra augmented by a sampler orchestra, just because a huger, more syrupy orchestra sound is preferred.

But hey, listen to Danny Elfman's scores from the '80s-- 100% Synclavier!

I've had his theme from The Pacific stuck in my head for the last month or so. Derivative, but awesome at the same time. Oh, and the Gladiator soundtrack rox0red.

bit of a mixed bag, his music is sometimes stitled and cheesey, but often enjoyable.
