I bought some stuff earlier this week and am probably down 10% because of it

I once bought a retailer that was selling for $2 more than book value and was profitable and such Bought it and it started going up Then the CFO/CEO came out and said all the books were cooked and it was a huge sham and the company went bankrupt That was fraud, so not my fault, but it still suuuuuucked.

And then there is that AIG stock I bought a few years ago . . .

Actually there's an old market saying "sell in May and go away", whichi is basically market timing. They did a study where they looked at returns of selling in May then buying in December, and got decent results vs a pure buy-and-hold strategy.

I day-traded as a 'hobby' in 2000/01. Was ahead for a while and lost everything at the time ($5000). Learned a good lesson. I have a gambling instinct but not an investing instinct.
