Spanish Language TV Dramas: Where and How They Are Made

I only get a few channels, Univision and Telemundo being the main two. I've been learning a lot of Spanish lately watching "las Munecas de la Mafia". It's entertaining as hell, with lots of mamasitas packing melons that could squish beer cans. I'm interested to learn where these shows are filmed. Where did they get mostly europid looking actors and actresses. What's the politics involved concerning ownership/leadership of these two channels?

A lot of it is filmed in LA and Miami. Telemundo for example is based in Hialeah, FL.

Not all hispanics/latinos are brown, only the illegal ones.

Mex City is a telenovela production powerhouse.

The two networks even have their own acting schools.

The leads are euro-looking because race and class are conjoined as they have been for centuries.

Both entries are pretty accurate.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Univision

[rant]However, in Univision's case, it fails to describe how the network has force fed mexican (and in a lesser extent cuban american) music/lifestyle through all hispanics throats, helping to perpetuate the stereotype that all brown spanish speaking people are "mexicans" and all white spanish speakers are Miami cubans. Their music awards, Premios Lo Nuestro, or something like that, has a ton of categories dedicated to mexican regional music, and almost none to other regional styles of the rest of the hispanic countries.[/rant]

The history lesson is a quite a bit more complex than that, but to a certain extent you are correct.
