Holy shit. Didn't he live in a mobile home for a few years after Star Trek because he was broke? There was recently a Facebook group attempting to draft him for Governor General of Canada. I think he'd be a great pick but he's too busy rolling in cash (well, share certificates).

i was just telling my friend about how David Wright of the Mets and 50 Cent did the same thing with Vitamin Water and made bank.

They did some ads, took the stock option and sold out when COke bought them a short time later. Wright took .5% in stock, which came to $20 million and its reported Fiddy made 400 million - he even had his own flavor

Big deal. In the 23rd century, that's barely enough to buy you a sandwich.

Very true......if you don't need the loot right away, it's a good move!

how stupid of them to not mention both his absolutely incredible singing Priceline ads ("Bust a Move!) about 10 years ago and how he got paid in stock back then and saw his payday shrink to almost nothing when the stock crashed during the dot com bubble.

Ed, are you being sarcastic?
Because that's exactly what the article does mention:

"But Shatner's accountant knows him as the man who had the foresight to ask for stock 10 years ago instead of cash when he started appearing in ads for the online travel company Priceline.com.

The Toronto Sun reported that Shatner, a Canadian native, has made a startling $600 million thanks to his early decision.

Priceline has been a huge winner on Wall Street in the past few years. Its stock price has gone up from just $50 a share last October to more than $250 last week. Priceline paid Shatner in stocks instead of cash.

During the dot.com bust 10 years ago, the stock was selling for less than $2 a share -- which is about the time Shatner got into the commercials as the tough-talking "negotiator" who karate-chops his way to good deals."

^^
your/their last paragraph, it makes it seem that he got in at the bottom and started doing the "negotiator" commercials. He actually started with the singing commercials, around the time the stock was hot, then rode it all the way up and right back down to almost nothing. At one point he was regretting taking the stock rather than the cash and joked about it.
