Laptop battery issue

Thread Starter
For the past month or so my laptop's battery indicator has been flashing. It wouldn't turn on/run without the power supply being plugged in. Yesterday I wasn't able to turn it on at all even though the power supply light was on and it seemed to be working fine. Does this just mean the battery is totally dead?

Most likely.

It can potentially be a an internal problem. Older Toshiba's had a real problem with some internal soldering breaking loose.

backup anything important if you haven't already done so.

I can't even turn it on to back up things.

The blinking light is telling you your battery is damaged/failing/has failed. Try pulling the battery and power up with just the AC power connected, chances are it'll run boot and run normally.

Sometimes a bad battery can foul things up to the point where the computer won't function.

I left my laptop plugged in constantly for about 6 months, i was using it as a media player and turns out that kills the battery. It would work when it was plugged in, but as soon as the plug was pulled itd shut off immediately.

I haven't had any problems with my Macbook (over 2 years old), which I use as a desktop. However, I broke-in the battery properly and do a full discharge / recharge every couple of weeks.

Too funny. Typical Apple fanboy behavior.

Thread seeks information on laptop battery. Brand is not mentioned. Along comes fanboy to plug Apple products in non-sequiturial fashion.

No. It has nothing to do with it being a Macbook, I just mentioned what kind of computer I own. I will direct you to: http://www.macbookbatteryproblem.com/ The important thing to take away from my post is that I broke-in the battery properly, something which I am pretty sure Conne did not do.

The only things conne breaks in properly are his monthly issue of "Bear Magazine" and tubes of vaseline.

Not sure if it has any application to your laptop, but it seems to be common that people damage the power cable's connector inside the laptop, causing it not to charge unless the cable is at the right angle. What I'm saying is, try wiggling the cord.

Conne is an expert at that.

Conne, is there anything in your life that you even try to handle on your own?

All laptop batteries deteriorate over time. Some people have crazy formulas like discharge every month and recharge or something like that. At the end of the day, it is time for a new battery or a new laptop.
