Nope, I never think that. People drive like idiots where I live, many of them drive large vehicles, and part of what I want in my vehicle is some presence on the road. FWIW, my GL has enough cachet to make me happy so I do not need to turn the knob to "11" for the E-class wagon.

Btw, what point did I miss as I'm losing track...is it I'm not rational, I can get two cars (one a gas guzzling truck) for 90k, or that my SUV is too big for me to happily cruise around in?

I get images of old air-cooled 911's with all kinds of 'update' mods. G wagens are subject to getting riced up lately though, as MB did that recent update and most of it was to make everything flashier and more conspicuous than ever. Because you can update the exterior a G wagen from the past 20 years with a lighting and grille swap, I see a bunch with incomplete updates or incomplete Brabus stuff, plus ugly rims (apparently the selection of rims for a G is very specialized and there aren't many to choose from)

I can get pics, might take a while though. My go to guy does these conversions, his latest was transplanting a g63 amg onto an 1984 chassis.. I'll ask him if he's got process pics.

Vicious cycle. You only want "road presence" because of other idiots driving monstrous cars. Bleh. If only America could all scale back to compact hatches, wagons, and coupes so I can drive my Mini and Boxster without constantly being afraid a dude on a cell phone in a Suburban is going to run me over.

No, I want road presence as I'm a bully and a douche.
