The 36k mileage difference is pretty big deal for me

Agreed on being able to find 2001-02 M3 for ~15k if you're patient. Saw one recently for 15.5 and I was blown away that they were listed that low already. That is one of the best looking cars of that era. I think it will be a classic.

The thoughts of the repair bills on a high millage ten year old M3 would keep me up at night.

But they sure are pretty. I love the looks of that car, and always will.

Havent really pondered my list of vehicles for a while. I suppose one could say I have been a tad eclectic in my driving choices. Most were appropriate for the time in my life though....you can even pinpoint the point in which I got married and started a family.

Youre not the only one. I also hate the shutdown mode the new models have, I really cant see that it is THAT much more efficient. Actually freaked me out the first day because I totally forgot that it was a feature.

I kinda want to get a 7-8 year old Maserati 4200GT and I want my dad (who is always asking me about Boxsters uhoh.gif ) to get the same car in the Spyder version, in lieu of a 'Coxster' . My reasoning is that both cars seem reliable enough, based on my research, and then if they did take a shit, then how different is the repair bill going to be compared to a BMW M car or a Porsche? I realize the Masers would be more expensive in that regard but, all things considered, maybe not by much. THey're also a huge steal on the used market (though I feel they've been creeping back up lately) and tons of car for the money, while not costing all that much.

I'm still a few years off from buying fun toys so I just need something basic right now. I'll have plenty of time later to buy a new M5 and have fun.

Right -- I meant expanding your options for e46 3 series cars. Definitely aim to get a 5-speed 330i/ci.

You can also probably get a decent e46 ZHP in that price range. A ZHP is a nice compromise between an m3 and a regular 330i. The ZHP also comes with a 6-speed instead of a 5.

I personally have a 330i ZHP and I love the car to death. Paid $16K for an 04 with 59K miles, as a data point.

Gotcha. Yeah the search is still on.Those were just reasonably close, in good shape, and in my price range. I'm out on the road right now so it'll be another week before I could think about making a purchase.

It's not great, but it's nowhere near as bad as the current A8 shifter:

Just terrible.

If I had more space in my garage, I would totally buy this car. Sadly, with 5 vehicles already, that's not in the works.
