Assholish to assume the back seat when dealership worker is driving you around? Y/N? Just wondering.

Wow. Sense the e-hostility over the interwebz. I was making a point that the service differs based on where you go. They actually hire a an oustide service that drives MB cars and I tipped the hard working guy more than it would have cost for a cab, and no not assholish to think that but writing it....

No, I was being serious - where I live (and have lived for the past 10 years) - I would never think about riding shotgun unless it were a) a family member, or b) a friend driving. I was just wondering the etiquette when it comes to driven cars like that in the USA - I, personally, would never take the front seat, unless it were a car with a ridiculous backseat (911, MB SL, 3-series coupe, etc)

There is a 'respect' placement for car seats in Asia - driver defers the most respect, VIP rides in the rear seat behind the driver, 2nd in command rides in the backseat opposite, least liked besides the driver (who is a worker) rides shotty, and then the middle rear if a bench seat is a toss-up - maybe a slight bit better than shotty if you're literally rubbing elbows with luminaries.

I apologize, e-sarcasm is hard to dechiper. It was a GL550 and the driver opened the rear door. MB Manhattan is an interesting ecosystem. It is owned my MB USA and therefore they offer 401K , pensions plans, health insurance, etc. So all service, sales and support are MB employees, but all valets, drivers are outsourced so they don't have to pay the guy who washes the cars health insurance and offer 401K. I asked the driver out of curiosity, but he owned the car and would drive routes for MB between airport runs.

Back when I lived in Korea, the head honcho always rode in the back seat behind the front passenger seat. And the driver was, well, the driver.

It makes more sense to sit behind the passenger seat, as you are closer to the curb and you don't open the door in to traffic.

In Toronto this weekend, why does everybody drive the Mercedes GLK? Did MB run two for one specials on it or something? And most of the remaining vehicles are Audi A4/A5/Q5's....
