Cars We Drive! - Page 1678

Jeez Louise.

No way the Ford beat those cars off the line and I hate Dubai, but man if the Block dude isn't badass.

Apparently mimo is quite adept at burnouts!

And start on with made in china bolt on turbo kits, not knowing the associated hidden costs and mods to make a N/A car turbo reliably? -injectors, ecu, fuel system, tuning costs, fabrication and exhaust costs?

You will be 6-7k deep into engine mods before you know it. My recs come out to about 3.5k. By the time you get to the cost of running turbo, the car would be a complete package.

If you think a Miata with a bolt on turbo and cheap clutch at 210hp, will feel and drive like a completely refined N/A miata at 150+hp?

Feel free to be the guinea pig. snork[1].gif
But then again, i suggested an sw20 mr2,mk3 supra, and a z32/z31 fairlady. They all have turbos.

I was pulling your leg for the most part, but the kits etc are out there and aren't China chargers.

Also, I never said I was going to turbo the car! I'm currently sitting on a header and mild intake cam upgrade. I found a reasonably priced used header back exhaust setup but don't know if I want to go catless or deal with trying to figure out how to work around the code so I'll likely wait on that bit.

Next year I'll look into a megasquirt 3 ecu and see if I can find a full exhaust setup. Still looking for a reasonably priced torsen or other limited slip diff. And when I wear out the stock clutch, I'll get a better clutch and lighter freewheel.

Have a line on some lightly used koni sport shocks that need springs and on some stock mazda wheels that are much lighter than the ones I have on. Might set up an HID kit over the winter. Also thinking of some tupperwear if I can find some own stuff cheap enough...

My only regret or cause of reconsideration is if it makes more sense to just wait another year or so and just pick up a slightly newer LS model that already has better shocks, better headlights, bigger brakes, and an lsd.

I actually listen to you a fair bit @thriftvader lol.

Re: none of the other cars were convertibles. We all have our notion of what constitutes fun.

Not been paying attention here... Ramu, you getting a McClaren?
I'm getting a Ferrari.

In 10 years.

Edit: speaking of 10 years.. I'm just at 5 years of work experience and it feels like a damn eternity. Wow.

Sounds like a Chinese ripoff of Bruce McLaren's name.

I shouldn't have hyped it up so much - I don't have Ralph Lauren or Elon Musk money for their F1 cars, but will definitely get a 'cheap' McLaren in a few months. I need a track car for the upcoming spring.

Speaking of, Ralph is getting up there in age. His F1 LM will likely be the most valued car when he sells it. Likely beating every 250 and Auto Union Type C or D.

You sir, are a winner. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

@RTC. Actually, i owe you an apology. My personal stress affected my posting. And i scolded you like a bad teacher. Though restrained. It was still bad form.
You went against our advice. And chose a Miata. All i can say is, "make it more of what it is, not something it isn't".
Members are unaware of what mods i to you to do. While on that thought. . If i remember correctly. You can swap it to rx7 calipers. But i forget the exact parts needed. For a budget brake upgrade.

All this while i am making a devious plan for my humble Subie. . . .

Ferrari has been a total dick across every dealership I've been to - Atlanta, Dallas, and NoCal and SoCal.

McLaren and Porsche have been super awesome across every dealership I've been to, without being condescending dicks. No matter how unassuming I come in as.

It might be why Seinfeld and Leno don't have a Ferrari.

From my experience most people who work in high end retailer are fuckwards covered dickheads with a side please may I punch you. The younger personnel generally act like they are better than the people who can afford their wares, which they can't themselves.

Around here even most sales personnel at vw are people I want to deck.

My perception as well. Adrian is fortunately a great guy who enabled, in part, the first 22 M3/M4s. The folks at Tesla don't work on commission.

It's just fucking anonying to walk in somewhere and have the sales staff think they're better than you. It's just nice to show humility. We're all people.

Can you imagine Jay leno walking into a dealership. In his jeans. And a overgroomed twat in cheap shoes tries to snub him off?

The less flashy dressed folk have money for the more important things.
Cars.

At his pay grade, I'm guessing jean shirts are fine. icon_gu_b_slayer[1].gif

Still respect Ralph's collection more.

As the saying goes don't judge a book by its cover. A friend of mines mother got a girl fired from a luxury shop, after she was snubbed for wearing wellingtons in the rain. Sadly for her she didn't know my friends mom knew the owner.

I have a bitter set of experiences with various retailers and less with others. I don't feel like wearing a suit every moment of the day.

As my principal at BCG would say, vamos and a bunch of Spanish I never got.

There's something I've been seeing about an rx7 rear diff upgrade too where you can rebuild the RX-7 LSD into the miata diff housing. I think the rear diff should be pretty far down my list of things to do for a street car right now.

Re: having made the wrong choice...

That's the fun of doing something like this. I can always 'start over' if I get bored with the car. At the price I got it for and the upkeep I'm doing, I should atleast get most of my money back if I sell it, especially if I go back to stock or find another enthusiast that likes the fact that the work has been done well. Obviously, going megasquirt etc would complicate that, but it would also make the car a lot more fun.

That said, the mazdaspeed miata was certainly a thing and was built on what is basically this engine. It suffered from a poor choice of just about everything...ecu, turbo, and intercooler. Can be built up though and there are a few that pop up locally. Can be more cost effective to build that or put in a supercharger. A lot of the cooling issues you talk about have been dealt with in even the 5k setups and the issues would only actually come up on the track....which is why the NA build sounds fun to me. For now anyway! It's also way cheaper, more reliable, and will be far less headachey=more enjoyment and less tinkering time.

In any event, this weekend:

(There's a 2jz waiting for this sucker)
