@Thrift Vader a rotary in the miata would be madness

This is freaking insane: http://jalopnik.com/meet-the-1000-horsepower-rotary-miata-that-just-invaded-1703178775

What do you think of the honda engine swap in the miata? I posted a link earlier. Looks like 3500 for the fit kit and then another grand for the engine and ac compressor, power steering pump, etc.

a k20 in a miata is a great thing. maybe thrift can source you a type r from the motherland or you can get a rsx type s.

The K20 from the Civic is a dog but the RSX-S motors are solid.  I had 288hp (supercharged) to the wheels on mine but everything else didn't like the power.

Japan is back to what it was when I was in high school and lusted after a Supra or an NSX. The LFA rebooted it, and they've been making some peculiarly cool cars since.

Madness you say?. . . . mwink[1].gif

That is way too much money. An SR20det would make more sense. 400hp+ (safely)=plenty.
Or the 3sge "Beams"engine and 6spd.

There are rumors that the Honda S2k is going to make a reappearance because of the success of the new miata and the AE-86 + BRZ combo.

I'd love to see an AP3 S2000.

The AE86/BRZ car was not a great success.  When I bought my Outback, they couldn't give away BRZs and they were the only cars discounted on the whole lot.

Part of me just wants to run one of the basic superchargers on the miata. It seems that it requires far less piddling around to get it to work right and they're still plenty of fun compared to stock. I know the rabbit hole of tuning/turbo/m0@r b00st is real, but realistically I doubt I'll have the time to do all the maintenance and work those setups require because it's definitely a labor of love. I also think that it'd make the miata dangerous for me. Part of the fun is that I can have a blast without worrying about speed limits. With a setup like that...

I keep thinking about this, though I need to figure out what all is missing from the kit.

They've certainly got the market going though. They suffer from the same issues that the miata does. It's hard to sell that kind of car in today's world because it just doesn't have the power. I'd rather buy a used 350z or S2000 for far less. Hell, even a PRHT miata would be less than a BRZ and that's after turboing/supercharging the damn thing.

Anyway, time to study...

Supposedly the RX-9 is going to have about 400hp and weigh only 2800 lbs. That's going to be insane if true.

I'm guessing they have BMW sauce and all weaves of CF wrapped up. smile.gif I'd love to see it, but come on - at that price point?
