Spec Civic? A quick Google search doesn't reveal much in the way of Civic racing leagues (unlike Miatas, etc.). Some enterprising young chap should start one.

You don't have to go baller GLS, but why not a middle ground like a fairly base XC90?

About the same cost as the Sport which is faster and has more room.

Are you pontificating on purchases now that you finally got your car? tongue.gif

Purchasing what? Mods?

For now I just want to clean the car up a bit and learn to drive it. Might get an ebay style bar just because I think it makes the car look a lot better.

I meant your car after the seemingly two decade long process.

I read an interview with a Volvo exec. Don't remember his title but he was responsible for developing their autonomous tech. He said that when Volvo puts their tech on the road they will be fully responsible for your safety, including liability. It was meant to be a dig at Tesla putting something on the road that he considered half ass, but I think that's a helluva stand

Haha, you mean other cars? Not really. I peek here and there to see what else is out there, but I honestly don't think I could have bought a better car for the price. Yeah, the paint could be better, and yeah it could have been the LS model, but in similar working order those cars seem to be going for 1500-2000 more. I could sort this car out for that much. The 01 I saw with more miles in LS trim looked like hell inside and had 45k miles more and needed top and tires. Would have been a decent buy at 3200 but not for 3800 which he was asking.

There's always a better deal, but the ones I've seen here have a missing title, non functional AC, dents/damage, or just have something else sketchy about them. I'm honestly pretty happy with my choice. And now that I have this car, I think the lady friend and I are going to go out to the beach this weekend. I'm glad I get to enjoy what's left of summer with it.

I'm sure I'll tinker with it in time, or just sell it in the summer sometime in the future and put more cash in to get something lower miles with a better trim. But honestly, I'm a student. I really don't see the point of spending 2k more for a car just because it has a leather interior and a few less miles. With @Thrift Vader's help, I can sort this car out pretty solidly.

There's also the bit about school kicking my ass and having exams creeping up in a week and a half. That keeps me honest and doesn't really give me the time to look for things and drive around testing cars out right now.

So everything worked out. Hilariously, the only reason I was looking at cars other than this one was because I wanted to have options in case this seller decided not to sell, or sold it out from under me. It was probably the best sale I've ever been through. My girlfriend was over, we all had a glass of wine, and it turns out my GF worked with the seller back in the day. Small world.

Need to get backyard, including ramada and outdoor kitchen, paid for first. I think my patience will pay off too as I hear within the next couple of model years the Street Glide Special will also have the 110 CI engine.

Gotta love the Swedes. For all my love of impractical and expensive cars, I've always loved Volvo.*

I do have to say it again, Si Valley encourages a bit of recklessness. Gmail was in 'beta' for years. Apple's antenna-gate, etc. Of course, in all those cases, lives weren't at risk, so huge difference. However, as long as the Tesla X and S remain the safest cars on the road by a country mile, I don't see investors bugging them. I wish Elon would tone down his rhetoric, but I guess don't mess with the recipe that got him here.

*Opinion partially skewed by the fact that we beat the hell out of my friend's 240 in HS and a cute girl in my cohort at my first job after college got a V60.

Honestly, I completely understand wanting to research, kick tires/test drive, and figure out what you want before going into something like a car purchase. Even if it's just a sub $5k summer fun car. I don't blame rtc one bit for the last few months. Kinda fun for me to look around on CL and discuss it.

I was also waiting to sell my bike. Didn't make sense to go through with the purchase if I got shafted on the bike sale. At the end of the day, I think I about broke even on the bike or lost a couple of hundred bucks, which was fine by me because of everything I learned.
