It's not fair that the GF is the only one to have an ongoing chronicle on here.

These are my formative posts!

They're not chroicles. That would be Robert McNamara in fog of war.

You guys are putting J.K. Rowling on edge for milking every dollar.

I like both of you, just don't keep bitching about the same problem for weeks.

The guy driving it definitely hasn't driven it in a while. But it looks good. It's got an aftermarket exhaust, racing beat front fender. A little bit of rust on the sides, enough that I could probably sand it down and rustoleum it because it's black paint in those areas. It also had a flashing airbag light... Goddammit. I think those are easier to fix though.

I google searched a mechanic near the sellers place and I lucked out. It was an imported car mechanic and he's owned a ton of miatas and loves them. He'd inspect it for 150 and seemed to knowed about the airbag issues. I can probably split the cost with the seller and let him know that it'll help him sell it if I don't buy it. I offered 2500 and he said he'd take it. Listed for 3k. Seems like a reasonable price especially since it gives me money to work with. I really wanted  a red one, but this looks like it's in good condition. Has a new top with a rear glass window, has good aftermarket rims that look great (but some curb rash). Tires are solid.

Here's the catch.... I told the shop owner about the red miata in CT and he said that he knows how to work through the airbag issues and has a source for reconditioned modules if it actually is the AC Module. He said it takes him 1 hr to fix the thing + cost of part. I can ask him for a quote or for that in writing as well. He also said he knows a guy that would pass MA inspection with the light on. I'd rather have the thing fixed, but atleast there's no hold up this way.

What say you CWD posters?

I'm going to go check the mustang for kicks. Might drive down and look at the MR2 today as well.

Rocker panel rust along the sides right in front of the rear wheel wells is very common. If you are noticing it now, it's probably pretty bad on the inside. If you intend on keeping it for awhile would pass on it. if it's just to drive into the ground for a year or two, then perhaps consider.

Took a glamor shot a few days ago:

Solid looking car - do they ship them in a same (or close to same) spec to the US?

Yeah they do, that's just the nb2 facelift with factory kit.

Super cool they come like that. For some reason, I thought they were like the neutered E36 M. Color me a moron.

So it would stretch the budget a bit, but the MR2 felt like a space ship compared to the miatas I'd been looking at.

Owner seems to know the car decently and states it needs rear brake pads. He'd take 4200 for it. I'd obviously have to get it checked out as well.

I actually like how the car looks and the interior was really nice... but it feels so impractical. Like... Could two people going away for a weekend even fit their stuff in there? Seems like not.

I also have a feeling that repairs in the engine bay would run more money than a miata and the cost wouldn't really give me much wiggle room. Of all the cars I saw, this probably has been the nicest/most fun.

Messaged! I have a few others I need to reach out to tomorrow if they'll play ball. Unfortunately they're all around 1.5 hrs away which is going to be a lot harder to do starting tomorrow. I've been running around like a crazy person. Checked out like 7 cars in the last 2 days!

Curious what you think of the newer Mr2.

Last gen Mr2's?

Not bad. Most are ugmo. But can be made to look good.(black is a good color on them) Not the hardest car out there to work on. Though a level 2 car i would say. And you need a level 1 car. (Wrenching difficulty) i like the interiors in them. As nice as an NB miata interior.

Bear this in mind, NB Miata should in theory share the same steering wheel as an FD rx7. So if it has a boring one, you can factory upgrade it.

If you can setup one as good as this guy did? You will be enjoying it on the street and the track.

@Thrift Vader here are a few other NB's around

http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/5694067868.html

http://nh.craigslist.org/cto/5706916367.html

http://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/5675190035.html

http://hartford.craigslist.org/cto/5715348515.html

I reached out to about all of them.

Any particular reason you're recommending the NB's instead of the NA's? I've read the NA's are way more go-kart like. Was age the factor and/or appearance? The NA interior, especially in the older ones is a bit...errrr...suspect.
