Honestly, I'm going to be covered by loans for the next 3 years. My school is cheap and I came here because it was MUCH cheaper than my top choice, on the order of like 30K a year. I went there with the condition to myself that I'd worry a bit less about money and have some fun while I'm at it if I could afford it. Sure, it's financially smarter to not do this, but I'm not spending loan money on this (prior pithy leftovers from working).

The options would be to sell bike and buy a miata with the money or sell bike+car and buy a used WRX or something with everything.

If you're not too married to the bike and car, I'd go the WRX route, though neither option sounds bad. The WRX seems like it'd be a better one-vehicle solution. Also, aside from the WRX, you're opening yourself up to more options - different cars, lower mileage, etc. which might spare you headaches down the road.

I don't know your exact situation though.

I like the Miata, didn't want to sound condescending wink.gif.

I'll repost it now: Would you really want to take a date out in a Miata?

I would think a woman would rather be in a Miata than a McLaren.

To answer the full question:

I like having a bike and riding. Housemate just sold his though so there's that. Also, 3rd year of med school on time gets pretty short and given that, I'd rather have a toy I can actually use regardless of time of day or year (with few exceptions in winter if we're talking about a miata). I've ridden my bike in the daytime when it was 80 and been cold as hell riding back home at midnight on the highway. Back roads still bring a huge smile to my face, but taking the long way requires planning and I have a feeling I could probably feel something similar with a fun car like a rex or tiny car like the miata, probably more so with the latter. But yeah, your point about opening my options if I go to just one option is well taken. Not sure what else I could do for about 10-12k that has awd.

Also, at this point my GF would be super happy if I owned a miata instead of talking about it and driving her up the wall. She actually won't get on my bike, or hasn't yet anyway. I bought her a jacket and have a spare helmet and I always ask if she wants to ride when she's over. I'd never force her to go on and she's never said yes. So it goes.

Re: Cars.

There's a mazdaspeed6 with 95k miles locally. I like what I know about the cars, but it looks like they had issues and there were too few made for reasonable support. Blah.

Well if we're going in that direction then rtc should just call Rivsu down here and pick up an R32 skyline

Thoughts on the S550 Cabriolet? My dream car for a long time has been a Bentley Continental GTC. I feel like the S550 Cab fills the same role for $70k less and is probably better engineered. May lease one in April.

My wife *hates* my GT3. It gives her motion sickness within 3 blocks. ...and I promise I wasn't cornering hard. lol!

She thinks Miatas are cute and she loves her SLK. hey.... since it's always fun to spend other people's money, rtc, how about an older SLK since we're upping your budget?

Benz does create nice touring cars. Go for it!

Nah, they are a nightmare. And RHD, which would be a pain for him daily.

If you want a skyline? You have them there. Known as a G37. Nice cars. All JDM V35 skyline parts fit. For vast tuning support. satisfied.gif

Fyi, a corolla hatch is perhaps the best car you could learn stick driving in. And only going up in value.
