Cars We Drive! - Page 1534

Re: Lemans.

I read that the toyota car dropped out because of "a technical defect on a connector on the air line between the turbo charger and the intercooler, causing a loss of turbo charger control."

Wouldn't it have been possible to wire this so it would have run in limp mode with just the engine and no turbo?

In short, they popped an intercooler pipe :P I too thought they could limp home, but guess not. Pretty complicated car with more interdependent systems that us plebs can likely imagine.

...and it's not even the end of it. Good job VW for sticking clean diesel TDi on the side of everything that moved.

Does this mean that I can buy a VW diesel manual super cheap to learn on?

There will be a #porschexit campaign soon, so I'd suggest waiting for a Porsche.

Thank you, I'm here all week.

Can I buy one now and then get the compensation and then flip it?

Will this affect pre-owned cars too? What about used cars made in that time period?

Somehow I missed this post.

Did they give you an allocation? Curious about how hard these are to get. Or are you on a list and when allocations start getting assigned to your dealer, you get a call when your turn comes up?

What's the ETA that they gave you?

Curious as well on this. When the i8 came out, BMW hoarded them, only to see them as a dime a dozen at dealer and not even indoors. The contrast is the 1 series M coupe, which was actually special.

I'm curious to see what goes on here (especially since, at one point, there was a chance I was going to be working on the settlement).

My guess is that if you bought the car after the news broke, you aren't entitled to any compensation aside from any repairs/modifications that need to be done to bring the car into compliance.

Certainly not any lost resale value (its like you buying a stock *after* the CEO is charged with fraud...the market already knew at that point, so the efficiency argument says it was priced in)...but maybe you'd be in for some compensation on diminished performance/MPG since the extent of that was not known when you purchased the car.

Came face to face with this today.

lol!

btw, why the interest in learning a manual? I'm curious.

fwiw, if you watch the video of me driving on the last page, you'll see what I was saying a bunch of pages ago about hand position, etc. You'll do better learning how to drive a manual if you're already in the habit of driving the way I suggested. Just trying to help. :D

After 8 Miata-less years from selling my '90, just picked up a '99 NB1 Miata yesterday. Navy on tan leather with torsen LSD.

I owned a wonderful Porsche 911 Carrera (996) for eight years but sold it and kept my beloved BMW E30 convertible, which I still love. I will never sell this car -- we are symbiotic.
