I popped a check engine light on my first run Sunday morning so I pitted in a lap early, stuck the OBDII reader in and it said an ignition coil was going bad. Luckily there is a 23 page thread on FT86club about it so it's an ordinary battle. Happens when you're running high RPM for extended periods of time and your under hood temps get oven hot. The solution is a vented hood (dat JDM steez doe) and to replace the coils more frequently. Oil temps got rather high too at 255 so that's another mod to be done. Sad that I didn't get to finish the Sunday sessions - didn't want to risk a 5 hour drive on three cylinders - but in all, a cool weekend. My instructor drove a Cosworth modified Outback boosted to hell and back with R comps. Weird, but effective car. Here is a youtube of his car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5poGiNIPacE

fix'd

Here's a mechanical question I've never figured out:

Why is it that a manual car can engage the different gears without depressing the clutch when the car is off? I have a habit of turning off the ignition, depressing the clutch, and then putting the car into gear when parking.

You can shift without the clutch while the engine is on too

All this is right. And it's easier on a motorcycle.

I also presume you guys like the year 2016 and automatics (DCTs and reduction gears count - Formula One does).

Did you talk pricing with him? If so, is it going for MSRP due to dat excess demand?

It'll prolly sell within the week.

it had a "market adjustment" of $20k written next to the window sticker, but the sales guy told me this was negotiable lol8[1].gif

Jesus no wonder it hasn't sold. 20k on top of MSRP is fucking bullshit.

i've bought cars from them without a markup, though. i think they start with the markup to see if some person with more money than brains comes along. and there are a LOT of those types in Miami. and if it doesn't sell quickly then they come down.

i was also told they could probably get me an allocation (build date sometime in 4th quarter) for MSRP. i didn't really pursue it because i have been banned from even fantasizing about buying another car for the next 3 years.

it is a great looking car, though. i have to say. if this drives like the 'old' BMW then my faith in the marque is restored a bit.

What are you doing in a BMW dealer when you have dat sweet GT4?
