Seemed like the Porsche BJ thread for a few months there.

Speaking of Porsche, I'm really lusting over a white Cayman S, preferably one with an Armytrix exhaust.

Is 'dat Cayman S' going to be a meme now?

How bad of an idea is a $5000 1989 944?

The first thing I noticed was that I could smell the guy's exhaust, which smelled mostly of gasoline. The second was that his acceleration seemed awfully anemic for the noise the car produced. I had to chuckle at the thought that his "mods" had probably reduced both the power of the engine and the gas mileage of the car. But at least he sounded terrible.

Depends on the condition, what does it need, are you able to wrench on it yourself, or will you need to bring it to pay for service?  Overall, these were well built cars, but with values down for some time many of these were deferred maintenance cars.  I'm guessing at $5K, this car has a ton of miles (not that if well maintained they can't handle high mileage) and it probably needs quite a bit of work.

1989 was the only year that used the slightly larger 2.7 liter inline 4 producing 162 HP.  These cars were pretty pricey back then coming in at around $36,000 in its final year of production. They certainly are not quick by today's standards, but really well balanced, and fun on a winding roads.  I had one for many years and they still put a smile on my face when I see them.

Again how bad of an idea depends on if its in great shape, under priced and a smoking hot deal, or if its a high mileage deferred maintenance car.   Check rennlist for more info on 944s.

I always like when the add a giant wing and tacked on ground effects that do virtually nothing the except add weight.

Me:  In a dirty silver e90 driving south on Rock Creek Parkway

You:  Driving north in a red LaFerrari

Your bright red car caught my eye and as we passed one another I silently wished that you would get into a freak accident, spin out, jump the median and somehow end up in the Potomac River.  My bad.  The hate in me was strong that morning.  I needed coffee.

I just picked up datZHP (The Vader) from the shop this morning. I had a couple of worn steering components and a strut mount replaced (along with some maintenance things like a bad fog light and an oil pan gasket).

I'm amazed at what a difference the repairs make in the handling of the car. Shiz is tight, yo. My day is packed but I will have to find some spare minutes to take a spin up into the Sierra Foothills soon.

Looks like Gulf livery to me. What a shame.
