Why would Honda display the MP4-30 McLaren Honda F1 car? The engine is a joke right now.

Taking a punt here, but I'd imagine that when they decide to put an F1 product on the stand (tantamount to displaying another companies product - given the departments are so distinct from each other) it's bad form to speak up and say "but you know our product is shit, don't you?" to your boss and their seniors. They've spent hundreds of millions on their F1 team, it would take an employee with fairly massive balls to tell everyone that it's too shit to even sit motionless on their stand.

Haven't sat in the seats but all the reviews I have watched indicated they were quite uncomfortable. YMMV, but the supposed rigidity and lack of adjustments would be a problem for me, especially on any longer drive.

I thought the same thing initially. Then I thought, anyone that follows F1 will know that and it was the first season of them re-entering F1. They might also think next season will be better given the huge financial backing McLaren-Honda have (similar to how Ferrari closed the gap to the Mercedes engine and the split turbos this past season).

The less acclimated that see it will likely think 'whoa cool they make Indy Cars' and the halo effect might put them in an Accord or Civic.

It's a lot of upside, combined with little downside.

Also the car looking great is Ron Dennis' obsession with how something looking mattering. Hiring Norman+Foster to design your headquarters and obsessing over the tiles speaks to that. Similar to the mindset of Adrian Newey when he said he wouldn't design a penis nose after the rule changes because a car should look beautiful. There are YouTube videos floating around about both.

I finally saw them in a GT3RS. They look sooooo sweet. I think I'm ordering them. The seating position is definitely deep and you're right about the rigidity, but they're workable. I may regret this later but it was love at first sight
