Cars We Drive! - Page 1261

Yes, they actually have appreciated -- or, at the very least, stabilized -- over the past year, esp. after the new M3/M4s came out.

And that example you posted has the SMG transmission and 20k more miles (the manual fetches a premium), and, not to mention, the lemon title..

Have you ever driven an M-car? I don't mean that in a derogatory way. They're fantastic and people are willing to pay for that experience.

Despite me actually being in the camp of being ok with getting this car, despite a little bit of seller bullshittery, damn if this hasn't turned into one of those mafoo threads where OP asks for advice and then argues strenuously with everyone who tries to give it

What's the advice that everyone's touting? That I should offer him $16k?

I didn't see the lemon title on it.  I haven't driven an M-car and have little desire to do so, at least not one that old.  I understand how car values work... I understand that people are willing to pay more for some relatively rare car or better badged or better experience or a million other things.

What I don't get is why you think you need to pay more for a car than the guy paid for it, especially when he's lying to you about what he paid.

Do what you want, it is your money.  I don't really give a shit, but I find it hard to believe you can't do better especially seeing you are in no hurry.

Classic foo post in those threads

Edit: I can't fathom buying a car with a $600 monthly payment when I lived with roomates, but again - your money.

I'm done. You know how to read. Enjoy the car if you get it

I saw an Aston Martin Rapide on the way to work today.  Although, I pulled one up one for sale at the dealership here, and it has this gaudy "Eiffel Green" leather.

You have a $20k budget for a street legal track car for HPDEs and Time Trials -- what do you choose?

Rapide looks quite elegant in real life. Peeped that one you're talking about and oh God, the horror. That leather is awful.

Pics kinda make this thing look like a Tesla, but hardly so in person.

Sounds great too.

@GreenFrog I would want to make sure that the car copes well with those E92 ZCP wheels as they may rub on the front. Idk, worth considering.

I wondered about that as well

Yeah, it seemed really nice.  I only caught a glimpse of it though.  I was a bit surprised to see 22MPG highway for a 6L V12.  I just can't get over the ugly green leather the one for sale has (hopefully it is just the pictures).

I was worried about that when I saw the car. The fronts are very very close to the tire well. I asked if they rub and for the most part they don't. They do rub slightly apparently when you're doing a tight, full turn, according to the mechanic I took it to, but nothing alarming or needing addressing. My E60 M5s rubbed under the same circumstances too.

In any case, the car passed the PPI with flying colors. Only thing needing addressing: AC is not blowing fully cold, so it needs a freon top up -- roughly $40 for that -- and then the rear differential seal is ever-so-slightly leaking fluid, so the mechanic said we should wipe it down and see if it continues to leak over the next 6 months. Nothing major, but if we wanted to, we could replace the seal and fluid for $240.

Seller and I went back and forth and we landed at $17.5k, my target price, so I'm pleased.

Will be picking the car up on Friday!

What are the outside temps now? Doesn't AC require a bit of heat differential to blow fully cold?

Still pretty warm around here, relatively speaking. Around 40s - 50s.

What do y'all use for insurance? I got a quote from Liberty Mutual for roughly $150 a month for 250/500 bodily, 100 property, 250/500 uninsured, 100 uninsured property, $1000 deductible for collision and non-collision, and some minor rental & towing coverage.

The same exact coverage at esurance is a whopping $50 cheaper a month for the same exact coverage.

Clean records. I'm thinking esurance is the no-brainer option here. Reviews for the company look decent-ish to good.

No one has ever come close to my rates at USAA.
