Saw a 745Li as a normal taxi here today. Amongst the nicer privately-owned cabs, I've seen an old S55, a couple new E-classes, a new E class wagon, see LS460's all the time, but never a BMW.

99% of all taxis here are merc diesel and have been for the last 30 or so years, although within the last couple of years, they have started using VAG and BMW more and more.

Now do to new tax regulations, (the taxi firms now have to pay tax for cars worth over 70k$), they have started switching to Skoda Superbs, as the new go to car.

Are these vehicles brand new? I didn't know taxi drivers made that much money. :wow:

Yup, they are owned by a Hauler, who often owns 4-15 cars, if you did weekend nights before the rescission, it wasn't uncommon for the driver to make 8k$< a month.

They didn't pay tax on their cars, so they are a good bit cheaper (they have to now for cars over 70k), also after 2xxk km or 4 years they can generally sell the car for the same price they gave for it.

The first couple of years many had to be bought back by BMW because of massive electronic brain damage, I had one, they were then sold as salvage title only. This is how most of what you are seeing made it into the taxi/livery fleet.

Was it an F02? I saw several E66 there some years ago.
During another visit I saw some GT535d. A horrible car to look at but it is nice once you made it inside...
Yes, I saw at least one F02, two or three E66's, and a few that were older. This was not my first time in those parts, so they surprised me because I hadn't seen any 7's during previous visits.

I just discovered (late pass?) the story of that guy who built the Countach replica from scratch (as in, aluminum bodied on tube space frame from sheet metal, and not a fiberglass Fiero re-body) - still can't get over how good of a job he did. True, it's not a V12, and it's basically a tube-framed racecar with an amazingly well-done body, but dude went as far as to even make his own rims!!

It took him 17 years and he started in 1990... imagine the choices out there now.

If I had the fabrication talent I'd make a 250GT SWB Berlinetta in the same way (mostly a tube frame car with a nice accurate-looking shell, racecar interior) with a driveline from a wrecked 456GTM or something. It'd probably take me.... 17 years.

Peninsula has it's own custom color for those Phantoms, the whole order sheet for those cars is great, the interiors too.

Rolls buzzkill.

Really enjoying my 3.2L A5.

Actually prefer it to my E60 545.
