Cheap-o Manhattan Hotels

I lost out on the musical chairs on a NYC trip this weekend and I'm considering sharing a hotel with someone else. What are some cheap as dirt hotels in Manhattan ?

the bunk rooms at the Ace perhaps? They're still going to be around $250 a night, hmm.

stay in newark and take the train for 45 mins. It'll be dirt cheap there, especially if you bid on priceline.

Check Travelocity, Expedia, etc. A lot of nice hotels would prefer to rent a room for a really low rate than let it go empty for the weekend.

a) Are you on an expense account? Seems like no.
b) Do you have hotel points?
c) Do you plan on getting laid (and with someone OTHER than the people who already have hotel rooms?)
d) How much do you care about location?
e) How much do you care about having a real hotel room vs. a place to sleep that is safe and comfortable?

Without answering these questions, I can't give you the perfect answer.

Jersey City has three nice hotels that tend to be empty on weekends, and you can be in Manhattan in 10 minutes on the PATH train.

Fuck Jersey. It's Manhattan or death. Anyway my back up plan is to crash at my sisters place.

a. No expense account. This is for fun.
b. i have points through Amex, but don't want to use it on this trip.
c. Yes
d. A good amount. Not make or break but would like to be somewhere in Manhattan relatively close to civilization
e. Would like a real room that's clean and safe. But lots of amenities aren't required and it doesnt have to be huge.

I have a friend staying at the Hampton Inn in Soho, so we could split a room if absolutely necessary.

Okay. Well I was going to suggest Couchsurfing (free stay in a NYC apartment), but if you plan on getting laid then that is not the best option. See, it's the getting laid part that throws a wrench into everything. I recommend an out of the way location (perhaps Upper East), and using priceline to lowball it. You will still pay a decent amount though. But at least by going to an out of the way location, you get a good deal and are only a $10 cab ride away so it doesn't get in the way of any plans.

To go even cheaper, you can try a hostel. But in actuality, I'd rather couchsurf than do a hostel. Cheaper and cleaner, imo. Then again yuo have your sister, so no point in surfing on a stranger's couch if you can on her's.

Look, staying in Manhattan hotels is just generally a terrible idea. They are overpriced. In conclusion, you should try to find a place for free, or priceline it, or use points.

The Jane Hotel - http://www.thejanenyc.com/

$89/night

The rooms are teeny-tiny, but you are only there to sleep.

Good price, I haven't seen better than $80s on priceline.
