No personal experience with these, but they are places you might want to check out:

I've seen these two recommended:
http://www.316barberspa.com/index.php
http://www.truefittchicago.com/

Other places:
http://www.belmontbarbershop.com/
http://halochicago.com/

gold coast area....does that help?

I got to Lakeshore Barber (an actual barber). Ike is about 80 years old, Mexican, Charges $17, and shaves your neck with a straight blade. This is what I like. If you are looking for a salon, I can't help.

I totally and completely recommend Terry (the owner) of Yorktown Barbershop. It's in Yorktown mall, but don't let that fool you. It's a real barbershop where he straight-razors your neck with warm cream and all.

Definitely go with Terry, though - he's got some other employees that are just OK, run of the mill barbers. Actually, there's a woman in there that's a "hair stylist" too - NOT recommended at all (for a guy's haircut). Try to call ahead and make an appointment. Same day should be OK, but Terry can get backed up sometimes. (630) 627-8126

I just did a google search, I go used to go to Guise | Chic until the closed down and now I go to either Halo in Bucktown or one of the random old school barbershops on Ashland (I live on Ashland, so I walk past maybe 20 of these spots on my walk home)...

If you hit State Street on Webster, the barbers are hit and miss. Ask for Christian. I haven't found any of the female employees that do a good job. I used to go to "D" in Old Town, but he may have left.

thanks for all of the suggestions!

I got a haircut at what I think was called 'Guise' in Lincoln Park (it was a barbershop that also had a few clothes, Acne and Nudie I believe I recall).. but it has apparently closed from what I gather. I have very difficult hair but he did a decent job.

+1...what a waste of money that was. Didn't want to make the trek to hyde park so I gave them a shot and it was definately a "stylist" and not a "barber"

OP - where did you end up?

Why is it called a "hair" cut? Aren't a large number of hairs being trimmed?
