Classic gray suit

I would like to add an off the rack or MTM gray suit, 2-button, no pleats, no stripes. I am looking for the classic gray suit look. However, there are many shades of gray (or grey if you prefer). What shade and style would you consider the classic suit?

Thanks!

i dont know what it is called (if there is a word for it) but there is a mid to dark grey with a sort of greenish or brownish tone to it (in certain lighting) i find that a classic grey or businessy. these greys work well with chalkstripe /pinstripe.

there are other greys like a mid to dark grey that has more of a purple tone to it that i reserve more for social occasions /night events.

a light grey is also classic. but not a dove grey or a heather grey

I just got this one in yesterday for the same reasons you pointed out.

This was my first MTM gray suit. I felt the dark color above would be more versatile.

Very nice suits! The first one is the classic charcoal gray. Do you think a lighter gray is a good business suit? I was thinking of something like this:

I like it. Personally I like the grey suit that Cary Grant wore in North by Northwest.

Jason from TAT, son.

Actually every single one of my suits are single breasted peak lapels. I guess it is my thing.

That is a pretty sweet suit patrick. I'm looking for a nice charcoal suit right now myself.

I'm actually wearing an almost identical suit today at work.

Yeah, I am actually getting a charcoal suit made as we speak, this one is actually like a medium grey, it comes out looking darker in my dreary office...

Charcoal and dark grey are great suit colours.

I recently ordered a MTM suit in solid Cambridge Gray--a slightly lighter shade than Oxford Gray. After I ordered it, I had second thoughts--should I have gone with the darker shade? When the suit arrived, I could not be more pleased. I have quite a few dark gray suits--all with pinstripes. The new suit is just dark enough to be be "dressed up" and light enough to stand out in a crowd. The solid color enables me to wear any tie and any shirt pattern--any color. Gray goes with everything. A great investment.
