The solid choice would be a good pair of black cap-toe oxfords. It's a workhorse shoe, good with nearly all business suits, and will even do with a tuxedo in a pinch.

If you don't have a pair, the Allen Edmonds Park Avenue is a touch expensive, but will last for years:

If money is tighter, something like this would do:

That no one has yet recommended our own Manton's article on wedding attire is a reflection on the extent to which this forum is beginning to slip in its usefulness. Read. Learn. Emulate.

A guy is selling these suits...

http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=178788

I wear 38S and sometimes 36S. I think ideally I would wear 37S if they made it more. I'm 5'8" and 150 - in good shape but not rail thin. 30-31 waist.

What do you think? Would the Zegna be too big? The RL too small? I don't want to buy these and have it not work out - I'm curious which one I would be most likely to have a tailor alter to fit me perfectly, and which would be best to wear to my own wedding. This seems like a good opportunity to get an awesome suit at a price I can handle.

Thanks

A black suit with staples all over it? I like that idea.

I'm a fan of TM Lewin Suits, quite decent quality for the money. They're slim fitting, although you will still want to take it to a tailor to get it just so.

A light grey suit is very suitable for a wedding. If you can spend a bit more, go to Brooks Brothers or Ralph Lauren, they also do very nice suits.

T.M. Lewin suits are decent for the price, but they are fused, so don't expect it to last forever. One of my old ones has ripply lapels that must be pressed constantly.

What about these charcoal suits, for my size - which is good and which could be best tailored to fit?

According to the cut-away diagram on their website, they are indeed half-canvassed.

Pair that with a light grey vest, and you'd have some solid wedding photos.

Going to order this...they have 30 day return policy so I will just send it back if it doesn't work.

Thanks much.

I apologize for the size of the picture, but I think this illustration is quite nifty for your situation. I also wanted the font to be large enough to read. This is from Men in Style, a book that contains drawing from Fellows in Esquire in the 1940s. This is their suggestion for the groom that does not wish to wear morning dress, and the description that goes along with it! Enjoy

And congrats to me for post 300.
