Staying in Hong Kong for 3 days, hotel cost?

So I have a job interview in Hong Kong on May 8th, I'll be flying there May 7th and leaving on the 9th, that's two nights in HK. Money is pretty tight lately so I'm hoping to stay on the cheap, can anybody tell me how much I should expect to pay for 2 nights at a reasonably non-decrepit hotel? I'll be interviewing in Wan Chai so I guess in that district or near that district would be best.

Thanks for any help fellas.

check www.asiarooms.com - which for some reason is being obscenely slow for me at the moment, so can't get you any specifics. Still, you can probably get away with ~$50-60 a night for something super-basic in Wanchai or neighboring Causeway Bay. Don't expect much though. BTW you can save a bit of money by exiting the airport to the right and taking the express bus into the city. IIRC that's about 25 HKD as opposed to like 100 on the Airport Express train, and it ends up not taking that much longer (abt 45 mins rather than abt 25). But it works out well as the bus will take you into Wanchai directly, and it is a nice drive in over a bunch of bridges as you island hop your way to Hong Kong Island. Airport Express takes you to Central, and you will then have to cab/MTR to get over to Wanchai (or Causeway Bay) - when I used to go there a lot, it actually used to work out faster for me to get where I was going than taking the train, as well as being a lot cheaper.

Cool, thanks for the tip Matt.

I've stayed in travellers inns/hostels in hkg in the past... most are pretty decent as long as you do not have high expectations. and as long as you don't mind sleeping in a prison cell sized room. I haven't stayed in wanchai but this is where I stayed sometime in the past, just to give you an idea how much these places cost.

Thinking of a place a few hundred meters from the interview place, 2 nights for 870 RMB, not bad.

edit: acidboy I couldn't use their website to make a reservation so I emailed them, are they trustworthy?

yeah, my friend still uses them when he sends people to hong kong.

Oh wow, Jantzen huh? I don't think we've ever discussed this here on StyleForvm.

Hope you enjoy the place. There seems to be a lot of you guys hopscotching around Asia all the time, what field are you in exactly? I've come upon a few 'consultants' in the legal field that seem to be able to stay in high end hotels, attend a few meetings, then move on to the next place. Seems like an ideal career to me. Though I guess I could just work harder here in the US and just take more vacations. Anyway, I searched up and down mongkok for a clean guesthouse and ended up in one that was $35 a night that only seemed clean because it was new. I'm sure it's faded by now, but I believe there's sites out there that document them.

I'm in Education- it's as good of a career as you make it, pretty much. Now I'm not sure about going to Hong Kong because it's a big chunk of my cash right now...
