I am so goddamn sick of seeing wasabi mashed potatoes on menus.
It's even more ubiquitous in the midwest than the ultimately ubiquitous french fries with truffle oil and parm cheese.

I've never had them. Are they the new garlic mashed potatoes?

I've never had them either. Because they sound entirely unappetizing. But I see them all over the place since lately I've been doing a lot of research.

What? How? Why would think something like wasabi mashed potatoes a good idea?

Welcome to 1997.

I've actually had some tasty wasabi mashers, but it was like that year's panko or balsamic vinegar.

By the way, thank you Bobby Flay for suddenly making chipotle-anything "souped up" food.

Never heard of wasabi mashed potatoes since I first read it in your post. Nothing about "wasabi mashed potatoes" sounds at all appetizing.

I hate, hate, hate small and cheap stemware. Recently went to a new wine bar that opened in my area. Sure the 6-8oz glasses have their place but if you are selling wines by that go from $10-20 by the glass, give me the ******* wine in a nice glass and don't try to tell me that most wines Tuscan wines are from the Chianti grape.

First it was "Angus" beef, now it's "Chipotle" mayonaise... uh, it's like everything has to be branded

NO JOKE. I was at a pretty nice dinner with my parents the other night, and we each ordered an appetizer (caprese for me, gotta love it, bruschetta for pops, tomato soup for momz) and an entree. The server asked us if we wanted our appetizers before our main courses. Is that really something you need to ask? For ****'s sake, it was 430 in the afternoon. We were the only people in the entire restaurant. It's not like we were holding up a reserved table.

"No, please bring my appetizer with my dessert."

What do you expect when you order tomatoes months out of season at early bird special hour?

I hate food companies. Nevermind wasabi mashed potatoes, now it seems like 95% of Americans takes their mashed potatoes in the form of flaked dehydrated starches from boxes. And the same with stuffing. And actual roasted poultry is a novelty enjoyed once a year in November.

And people assume that Olive Garden = legit Italian food.

They're on several of Steven Starr's menus here in Philly. I had them at Buddakan once, and they were actually alright. Though the wasabi-crusted filet was better.
