Letting out a suit jacket... Advice?

I just got a new Hugo Boss Rosellini suit and I had the jacket brought in a little in the chest. Now it's a little too snug and the flap in the back doesn't exactly lay flat.

I'm thinking about having the coat let out to its original cut. Can anyone tell me if that sort of thing can mess up a suit or can the average tailor usually get it right?

Best advice is don't even try it. If it did not fit then better not to buy it.

It depends on the fabric. I say go ahead and try.

where is a mod when you need one?

I would say go for it in terms of letting it out, the material is clearly there, if you had it taken in.

Yes, cotton can be problematic.

So... the tailor took it in, but now it doesn't fit properly? It seems to me the tailor made a mistake, and should at least offer a discount and fixing it.

Thanks. When a tailor brings something in, will they always leave the extra fabric for letting out later on? Or is there a chance he may have gotten rid of it?

I have had jackets let out in the chest and have been pleased. My tailor recommended against letting out a poplin jacket because the cotton would show crease lines where it had been let out.

The tailor should have left the excess cloth, but some might cut it off. Even if it's there, letting it out might be ugly, depending on the cloth. Some will always show the old seam. Ask a tailor.
