wallet or money clip? - Page 2

Money clip. And if you're worried about losing your cash in the airport, put the clip in w/ your keys etc., and leave the cash in your pocket.

That is my next purchase. However, I must address "social" issues as my wife gave me an expensive wallet for our anniversary last year.

I faced the same issue last November, when my fat wallet (Euro-style, with a folding coin purse attached inside and big enough for any modern banknote) was lost/stolen. I examined several alternatives online and in person. I settled on one that happened to be really inexpensive, the Jimi. (Rob Walker also did an NYT magazine column on it, which though I love his column and earlier work for Slate pissed me off because for weeks after people were asking me if I bought it because of the column. Never mind that many of them had seen me use it for months before said column.... The materials are not elegant or luxurious in any sense of either word, but the design is inspired. I may have gone with this one had I been able to see it, but my local Neimans doesn't carry it, and besides after having used the Jimi for a while I like the internal money clip quite a bit. The external one and delicate wool (I wear a lot of frescoes in the summer) or linen pants may not be a happy combination. Except when I'm traveling somewhere that requires use of coins in daily life, I can't imagine going back to a big, fat wallet.

I carry a wallet but have been thinking about switching to a card case plus money clip to spread out the heft. The trouble is I travel a lot and have to carry multiple currencies and retain receipts in addition to cards and one type of currency (plus spare business cards; the bulk are in the briefcase). I am staying with a wallet for now, but if you have any good ideas I would love to hear them.

I carry the Moleskine Memo Pocket. Its a 3.5" x 5.5" accordion file with the familiar Molsekine cover. They are more durable than you would think and they are perfect for keeping bills, receipts, business cards, etc. I also carry a few 3x5 cards in it for use in taking down notes, numbers and such. It's pretty much a breast pocket solution, as it is not durable enough to be constantly sitting on. Otherwise, I use a card holder and a money clip. http://www.moleskineus.com/memopocket.html

I already carry a moleskin notebook in the same size for business meetings. That goes in the left jacket breast pocket. Having another one that is similar is a bit of an overkill, at least for me. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have this brown Coach leather moneyclip/card case hybrid that Has two slots for cards and a clip on the back. It also has an opening in the middle which I put more cards in (though its probably for receipts). After I got it as a gift, I couldnt go back to a real wallet again
