Valet recommendations

Looking to see if anyone has any recommendations on a medium-sized, table-top valet - not one with a stand that you hang clothes on, but something just to store my pocket contents: wallet, keys, etc.

Like this (found this on a quick Google search):

Container store has some inexpensive ones:

Antique store : old wooden box, musical box gutted, vintage cigar humidor(expensive option), vintage jewelry or watch box.
I would not buy any of those Chinese-made boxes from the inetrwebz, unless they are Ming dynasty.

I got fed up trying to find a nice looking dresser top valet that could hold my watches, glasses, and pens, with a little extra room, so I just gave in and found a woodworker online and am currently in the process of coming up with the specific design with him.

Once it is complete I can share a link to the review that I'll most likely do of it, but that might be your best bet...just find a local woodworker and see what they already have or if they can make you something specific to your needs. It will be more expensive, but there really are not a lot of nice options out there otherwise.

As promised, here is the review I did for the custom made wood valet that I had made to hold my pens, watches, glasses, and other stuff.

It was a little more expensive than a mass-produced one, but so far I feel like it is much better than I would have got if I had taken that route. Here is a small version of one of the many pictures of it that I included in my review:

If you just want something to throw your wallet and keys in then I suggest this one from Pottery Barn. I have one and it's great. http://www.potterybarn.com/products/...ns-accessories

I use an old cigar box that I got at a garage sale for $5 including all of the stuff that the seller had inside it (a old Casio calculator watch with no band, some baseball cards from the 1980s, a bunch of pennies and nickels, a nutcracker, two leaking AAA batteries, a rusty old belt buckle and some other junk). The box was actually pretty clean and in good shape and after the nearly $3 in change I pulled out of it, it wasn't a bad deal at all.
