Sad news indeed. What's even sadder is the alleged disdain he had towards DJ Premier even until the end.

I don't know what happened, but it's heart-breaking to hear that Solar wouldn't let Guru's own family see him while he was dying.

The letter seems fake to me, ghost written by his current partner, Solar.

And before you expect a standard clarification, there is a rumor that Guru was gay and Solar was his current partner.

It is also rumored that Guru was barely in condition to write a 4 page manifesto of hate during the short time between his heart attack and his death. Some say he was in a coma.

Perhaps Guru was overrated as an MC, but Gang Starr wasn't. Their songs will live on as some of the best hip-hop ever.

Also, Guru's brother is a Stanford U. professor, and looks almost exactly like him except older...

Very sad. RIP Guru.

Screw you, there's no prerequisite for wishing someone a peaceful farewell, whether they listened to 1 song or 100 songs is almost irrelevant. What matters is that a great musician died and that they can acknowledge it. Yeah maybe a few people are trying to appear more involved in the scene than they really are for their own benefit, but so what? The majority aren't like that and it takes a real cynical asshole to think that most people would use a time like this to boost their 'street cred'. Once again, a good rapper has died and people are paying their respects and that's all that matters. R.I.P Guru

ya, that was exactly what I thought. On your way out, and you take the bitterness with you...that blows.

Man did you even read my other post? I basically said the exact same thing. I've never claimed to be a fan but I still have a ton of respect for anyone who makes art in an uncompromising manner and makes a living at it.

The facebook comment was referring to SPECIFIC PEOPLE on my facebook friends list. A bunch of tools posting cheesy asides. I'm sure there are tons of genuine white suburban fans but there was also a lot of silly bullshit. Maybe it's a factor of my young age or where I live but I can't imagine that this phenomenon is completely unique to me.

RIP. I've been a fan of Gang Starr since the mid-90's. I'll pour out a little lemonade for him today.

Well you did change your opinion based on the negative feedback you received. You can't deny making a mistake then just because you know better now. What's more I still think you're being overly presumptious in categorizing people as either 'tools' or 'genuine white suburban fans' based on the 'credibility' of their gesture to guru. Those are bold statements to make and considering your basis I don't think you're in line to make them. But then what do I know, I'm probably a 'tool' by your generalization, unworthy of any consideration.

Based on this post, I'd say you may be onto something.
