Again, my knowledge is somewhat dated, but if by "thrift stores" you include "vintage" than there are several in the Twin Cities, as it is more of a vintage clothes kind of place than a new clothes kind of place...

Via's Vintage between Uptown and Downtown Mpls: http://viasvintage.com/
Rewind Vintage in Nord'East: http://www.rewindminneapolis.com/
The Corner Store in Lyn-Lake area and near Midtown Global Market: http://www.yelp.com/biz/corner-store-minneapolis
Tatters in Lyn-Lake: http://www.tattersvintageclothing.com/
Lula on Selby Avenue in St. Paul: http://www.stpaulretroloop.com/

The mother of thrift and bad vintage is Ragstock, which has several locations: http://www.ragstock.com/

This is a crosspost from SF:
Alright, got the OK from a shop owner here in St. Paul to let me throw this up on here, and I'm gonna do a write up for him as well.

The store is called Black Blue, and the owner is Steve Kang. Black Blue has been open for just over a year. I didn't hear about it until a local magazine named it the best mens shop in the Twin Cities, so I had to check it out. This place is a gold mine, and he provides a very diverse assortment of products ranging from shoes, to Redwing boots, Pendleton shirts and jackets, Filson jackets and luggage, Duluth Pack, Barbour (i'm really considering getting a roadmaster waxed jacket..., Shades of Grey, A.P.C jeans and clothing, as well as some well priced basic T shirts and hoodies from Alternative Earth and many, many more items which are constantly being updated. Here is a look at the store, which is a great take on urban style. I love the books attached to the walls supporting the shoes and shirts, as well as the deer head on the wall, giving the shop ties to the roots which its merchandise emulate, the modern northern style present in these pieces. Everything in the store is perfectly applicable to Minnesota, wool, flannel, rugged footwear, and great layering pieces all function well in the dead of a Minnesota winter. Thanks Steve for talking with me, look forward to networking doing business with you in the future...

You can check out the blog here..http://www.blkblu.com

if any of you are ever in the Twin Cities, it is a must see. Rare for us to have this quality clothing in the cities.
