Lunch in D.C.

Thread Starter
Looking for lunch recommendations in D.C. Don't think I'll have time for Ben's Chili Bowl, could always just go to CF Folks. Just looking for something different and not too expensive.

Will be near 13th and M NW.

You're just a few blocks from Chinatown. Frankly, in that area, you're basically stuck with officepeople food, i.e., nothing interesting to write home about.

I'm drawing a blank on that area. The only two restaurants nearby I can think of are DC Coast (14th and K) and Brasserie Beck (11th and K).

Ask Conne.

Can you drink beer? You're only a couple blocks from Churchkey, although they may not open until later weekdays. Also not too far from Brasserie Beck (11th and K), which may be too pricy, and Againn (11th and NY), a Scottish-influenced, clean and bright gastropub type place. Againn would be my bet. It's more expensive than Ben's or fast food but not crazy expensive.

Nah, you can do fine.

Best food is probably at either Zaytinya (tapas) or Proof (new American / wine). Poste is OK, too, and some like Zola (I don't).

A little further East are some decent-for-the-price/location ethnic places, including Momiji, Kanlaya, Burma, and the kebab place next door. Also next door is a fun but kitschy Chinese place that makes their own noodles and dumplings. Just stick to the noodle soup and dumplings, as they're the best items I've had on the menu.

For a liquid lunch, hit RFD (where the food ain't bad, either), and then Chinatown Coffee Co. at 5th and H for some eye-opening "dessert".

Hope this helps.

IMO, Churchkey is not bad, but inferior to Againn. Shoreman, next time you need an SLR, PM me.

Will do, although a generous SF member has me covered this time. I find myself wondering where you work...

Founding Farmers was really, really good. All organic, but expensive, nvm.

Edit: Go to Corner Bakery on F and 16? I think. Really good & not expensive. Long lines tho...

Was Corner Bakery just recommended as "really good?"

Don't know about lunch, but the breakfast was kickin'

Edit: Also I don't have a very discriminating pallette. If I found an old, dust covered hard boiled egg that rolled under the hotel room bed, I'd consider that a "really good" breakfast.

I've been in there a few times, but never ordered lunch, just a pastry or some such. I'll be in those parts very soon and may give it a try.

Vapiano and Nandos. They're both right by the Gallery Place Metro, and they're both reaaally good.

Capitol City Brewery, the one on the Hill. I love the salmon dish and their sweet potato french fries.

I had a great carrot ravioli at Ardeo in Cleveland park. Bistro Bis, Zola, Central, Java Green (Vegan), etc etc etc.

That place gave me the shits the first and only time I went there. Not doing it again.

Check out the bakery at Potenza. Great bread and sandwiches.
